my Bil-seems had a similar problem on a new Citation TT 2 yrs ago. The mixer valve at the hot water heater was bad. An rv repairman came to the park and of course didn't have the correct valve, but ordered one from General coach. It took 2 weeks to arrive, and then put in. No problems in the last 2 yrs. TT was under warranty and Citation paid for the repair. I'm no mechanic, but the situation sounded similar..Dona

All I can tell ya buddy is that I had a problem similar to the OPs, in a previous RV, and relieving the pressure and purging the air solved it for me without weeping.
Maybe it solved itself and it was just coincidence that it happened the same time I opened the relief valve.
Evidently you're an expert so please share with the OP how you think they should handle it.

Sorry "buddy". I wasn't tring to belittle your reply, but just trying to rationalize and I realize that the results that some get with a certain procedure may be different that others.
And without sounding too pompus, yes, after 30 years in the RV business, I consider myself qualified to offer some of that experience here on this Forum.
And I have already shared with the OP what I feel the problem may be.

A water heater will not air lock. If you open a hot water faucet when filling the tank, the air will purge through that open faucet. This is obviously not the case for the OP, since they have used the hot water and all the air has been purged. If the tank had too large of an air space they would get air and not water out of the tank.
True there may be a small air space in the tank, but as someone mentioned , this is desirable to keep the relief valve from weeping. In fact some manuals will tell you if the relief valve is weeping, drain and refill the tank to regain the air space that has been lost over time.
If the check valve on the inlet supply was bad, it could restrict the flow rate of hot water out of the tank but certainly have no effect on the temperature of the water coming out of the tank.

Drain the******out of the water tank. Probably full of sand and other particles.
