Hi
Since quite a few of us "gassers" have the Ford 53 chassis with the 10 cyl modular motor we thought it might be informative know what we get in the way of mileage and what accounts for the differences. Please...only actual mileage from Ford '53 owners and mention such things as speeds run, # of trans fwd. speeds, mods, generator running(?), heavy options like slides and even terrain. It would be interesting and might let some of us know if we have a problem that needs attention. We cannot say what ours is as yet because we never checked till now but I have heard estimates from 7 to 10 (Ford says 12 LOL)and we have a 30',no slides,15,000# average weight w/ 4 speeds forward auto. and try to keep all tanks around 1/3 full or less. We pray for 9-10 but might be disappointed. Will post when we know.
Thanks
Rob and Sally

I get approximate 9.5 without the toad / 9 with the toad.
I try and maintain 60 mph less not going above. I have tow slides but they are on opposite sides so they are like 2' instead of the 4' extensions. My weight is 15,500 lbs loaded with the four speed auto trans. Note wife wasn't in RV when the weight was taken so it might be a lot higher. Bill

I got 8.1 last year at 55 mph level road and no wind. That is with an old 275 HP V10. We do not have any slides and tow a Saturn.

We tested out the mileage on the last trip between Dallas and Fredericksburg, TX. We only got 7.5 with toad. We had a terrible head wind all the way home so that might have hurt us and all tanks were full. We are a 2007 Magellan with 3 slides.

I live in Utah so anywhere we go from here we encounter grades and wind.
My rig is 30' has two slides and is the 2002 chassis, so has the lesser horsepower engine though I do have the Banks Power Pack. I sometimes tow a Chevy Cavalier and the motorhome, on the road, is 18000 lbs. We have traveled 8829 miles in this MH in all sorts of terrain, into the wind, tail wind, toad and no toad, roof air on and roof air off and usually 55 to 62 mph. My average to date is 8.48 mpg.
I keep a log of our trips and record time and miles to each stop and also fuel so I know the figures are accurate.

We've put about 28000 miles on our 33 ft, 2-slide Holiday Rambler. It's got the 20,500 lb chassis with the 310 hp engine, and we don't tow or run the generator. We've averaged about 8.5 mpg over all sorts of conditions, with a few runs as low as 6.5 and one or two over 10 (Great tail wind!). I run about 62-65 mph.

Have the '99 20,500# chassis (no slides). Had the Banks system installed in 2001. More power but the gas mileage runs about 7.5 mpg as we are always taking the toad. With a tail wind have gotten 8.7 mpg. I run at 58-60mph. Drops a little when using the generator. Drops to about 6 mpg with a head wind. Seems we're always running into a headwind.

I'm thinking you 'all are getting pretty good mileage considering the V10. Here at the radio shop, we have a Ford 1 ton service van that weighs a fraction of what a motorhome does, and it averages 11 MPG. I think Ford’s estimate of 12 MPG is for a chassis unit with no body installed yet.

We have the 362 hp engine with 5 speed, 35' 20,500lb chassis with 2 super slides. I leave home with full fresh water. Not towing I get 8 mpg. Towing the Chevy Tracker, about 7 1/2, towing the car and the trailer, about 6 1/2 to 7. I usually drive about 65 mph when allowed.
