Hi folks! First time poster here and I could use some advice.
My wife and I will both be retired soon and we plan on doing some traveling and "dry" camping. I'm not really a fan of generators in camping areas but it's looking like necessity may force me to move over to the "dark side" and get a generator. I read and did some searches in the mega-thread on Champion generators and what I think I found there is that the Champions do the job well but they're a little noisey and can't be quieted down. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
The other battery charging option I'm looking at is a small windmill. We'll be doing a lot of camping near the seashore where the wind is almost always blowing so I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using a small windmill to recharge their batteries? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are noisy and require setup time.

I have been around some of the little windmills that are every bit as noisy as a champion gen, and I was like 200 yards away.

Get a Honda 2000 or even two. So quiet you can barely hear them. You can parallel them and run your AC if you need. One for charging the batteries. Easy to pick one up at a time.

"Wind always blowing" may or may not be enough to power a wind mill. We've had several folks research wind power and have found they are noisy, and all we've found require wind speeds to the point, when getting enough amperage to amke it worth while, were to high for the people to be comfortable.
There can also be too much wind as they have a range where they generate power. Too high is just as bad as too low.
Not to mention you'll need an "energy sink" to handle the amperage produced when your not using it to charge batteries or operate equipment.
It's not a pay some money, stick the thing on a pole and forget it.
It will take some research and learning to even find out if you can do it right at your location.

Also consider solar. Other than Air conditioning it will provide all your power needs, no setup, no maintenance, just one expensive install of about 7000 bucks.

You'd need a very large windmill to get enough power out of one to do you much good.

the current RV model and the smaller 1500 watt model meet Nat forest& park specs for sound.. yes they are louder than a honda inverter that is doing nothing more than charging batteries, but NOT contractor loud,
wind mills forget it. buy a genny, and or some solar
