My backup monitor is also the front television. I want to replace the old TV with a LCD unit, and my question is: Do I need a special TV for the backup camera to work correctly, ie: for the image to be reversed, or does the backup camera do this automatically?
Second, does anyone know if my existing televsion a dual voltage, AC/DC of just AC or just DC?

Sharp Aquos LCD TVs have an 'Image Inverter' setting to turn picture upside-down or mirror-flip it right-to-left.

Been there, done that.
The old CRT TV set has a relay installed inside. The relay is powered on with your camera switch. The relay contacts reverse the ‘yoke’ wiring on the neck of the picture tube, and that flips the image. On our Safari, it was a yellow wire that operated the relay coil.
There’s two ways to upgrade… install the Sharp Aquos set as mentioned and manually switch the image, or replace the camera itself with a reverse image camera. That’s the route I took, and I ended up with a better camera to boot. (Low lux, living color, etc.)
The camera feed itself is a separate cable with an RCA type connector. Just plug that into an auxiliary video input. (Yellow RCA jack) On my ILO set, I manually switch the TV to ‘’composite video 1’’ for the rear view camera.
Note that if you get a Sharp Aquos, you will need to switch to the proper video input as well as flip the image.

Oh, yes. The camera is behind a panel that unscrews. It's in the upper rear cabinet in the middle. You'll have to stand on the bed and reach in to access it.
If you can see the TV from the back, you can get the a new camera aimed properly. I used a small TV set with a video input, and aimed the camera while watching that.

What year/model Safari ?
My 1996 Sahara used a standard tv receiver (110v ac only )-- the camera provided the reversed video signal--
Much different than the Continental model info above-
The "rear monitor" switch turns on the inverter and the camera--

My sahara does not have a relay, it works the same as electronpushers does.
I used a LCD from a head rest and put it in the dash.

We just replaced the tv's in our Safari rig too.
We hooked the camera coax to the aux input and just see the actual camera image in reverse. Which is ok with us. We only use the camera when at busy gas stations or parking lots etc. so ANY movement behind us, whether from the left or the right, will make us STOP and double check before moving again.....
(especially danged little red cars with dumb teenagers talking on cell phones who zip behind, around and in front of you no matter if you are moving in the right of way or not... but that is another topic!)

Don't know what year Safari you have. I had a mid 90's safari with the setup described by adondo, 120 volt only. One day I took the cover off the camera housing in the rear (in the closet on my floorplan) and found the camera had a reversing switch, so there was no need to reverse the yoke in the TV. Check your camera, you never know.
