To Whom It may Concern , sent to KOA head Office. My Family and I have been Rving since around 1980, and we have been all over the States and Canada , staying around 80% at your KOA. We had a KOA Membership , but we decided that at this point in time , not to renew it for we feel that most of your standards have gone down and your fees have been going unreasonably high. I’m now writing this Complaint, just to show you that one of your Camps are “ all money, not Family concerned “ . For the Third time we stayed at your Niagara Falls Koa, Grand island USA, and we will never stay there again, for we feel that this Corp. Site is not for my Family. On June 29 we stayed overnight after a day at Fantasy Island, and the next day we found that our 8 year old had developed a high fever so he had to stay in bed. I went to the Office and asked if we could have a check-out for 12:00 instead of 11:00 am. This cold and rude Female, after hearing Why? We needed this extension said in her Corp. Military training, and I quote “I will give you 15 minutes after 11:00, and after that you will have to pay an extra $10.00 to stay any longer only until one". Never in my years of Rving have we paid any extra time, this is strictly Corp. garbage, with no concern for the people who are there, then you call it Family Camping. It's not because I didn’t have the $10.00, it's because I will not be robbed and held ransom. We stayed only over night, we made our own bed, used our towels, cleaned up our floors and used our own toilet paper, and we did not use any of your facilities except on our site. For this we paid a total of $62.00, and you want more, I'm sure that I could find a Hotel for less. We could have stayed in Walmat (for we are fully self-contained) for free just down the road, and we would not of been asked to move off the lot. In conclusion I did meet with the Manager, but I was not impressed , same Corp. attitude, although she did say she would wave the $10.00 fee, it was too late I was off the lot and moved over to the Walmart parking lot, where my Son rested there, until we started again. All I can say now is I can see a big attitude change in your KOA as we travel, you guys have been slowly changing, In the not so high tourist, areas your sales are down, some internet sites (like ROTI) now have a lot of complaints about your so called Family Camping. I for one will not EVER go to that Site again , and I will prefer to find now other alterative sites to camp, for your KOA sign now has a bad taste in my mouth.

Each KOA is individually owned and operated, and the individual campgrounds pay a franchise fee to KOA. They have a wide latitude of operation guidelines, and I am sure what you experienced as far as a fee to extend the check out time is within the operating guidelines. As far as rude employees, that is unacceptable, but such a subjective observation that everyone will have a different opinion as what constitutes rudeness.

I will be surprised if you even get an acknowlegement from KOA.

Most of the KOA site I've seen are only a few dollars than a good motel. And at the motel you get room service and long hot showers.

Wow, good for you and thanks for writing to the company direct. Hope you get a response. If they were Family Oriented and they indeed had some one waiting for your site, which I doubt, they could have at least offered to have you move to another site for that short time.

I too have stopped using KOA about 5 year ago. It is like they are doing you a favor just for being there.

I for one am sorry to learn of your experience - but it is not really unusual! I 'had' to stay at a KOA once about 3 years ago and I will NEVER stay at a KOA again unless there is absolutely NO OTHER alternative. (And since we are fully self-contained, the alternative of 'dry camping' is always available - and certainly better than the 'big fee for no service' charged at most KOA locations!)

I know that some KOA's are not very good, but we did stay recently at one in Wapakoneta, OH that was really nice and the people who own it were also very nice. I would recommend it highly. They had a lovely pool, nice clean sites, free wi-fi and cable tv. I believe it cost us $27/night. We did have 10% off coupon.
