Vogel State Park has swimming, hiking and biking. Uh, it was very hot in June a few years ago. Was hotter than Florida!

I was in a tent --- that was tough.

Fort Mountain state park would be first choice to escape the heat.
Hiking and Backpacking - 14 miles of trails
Mountain Biking - 27 miles of trails, $2 trail fee
Fishing Boat, Canoe and Pedal Boat Rental
Miniature Golf
Horseback Riding - 25 miles of trails, horse rentals, stables
Great views, always clean bath house's, just a great park.

We loved Old Federal a COE CG in Flowery Branch, GA. See some pics of our stay here. It was heavenly. But that was April -- I'm not sure what summer brings.

It is pretty popular so if you decide to try it make reservations early. You can reserve specific sites. Check out this link for an interactive map to see pics of every site. The water level was really low during our visit and I'm guessing it will take awhile to recover but it was still beautiful.

Why not go a little farther to the Smokies? You would enjoy East TN. North GA will still be hot in the Summer.

Go a little further, like Asheville NC, you will get away from the heat then. Georgia is HOTTER THAN FLORIDA in the summer. I lived in Tampa, now Atlanta, that FL breeze does not happen in the mountains.

Georgia state parks are good, and NPS, Army Corp of Engineers, and several other agencies maintain CG's in the GA mountains.

Helen GA is a replica of a Bavarian village, thrives from Oct to xmas season as a "specialty destination" for GA resident tourists.

Tallulah Gorge is a wonderful place to see, apply early for your pass to enter the gorge. Blackrock Mtn in Clayton GA is the peak of the continental divide in GA. Lake Hartwell, Oconee, Allatoona, and Lanier all have CGs along their shores.

I will only caution about Payne CG on Lake Allatoona, they cut trees a few years ago due to pine beetles. No shade available.

Ritchie O, I had the same idea for summer of 2009. I checked into Old Federal for July and it was booked as were all the COE campgrounds on Lake Lanier for the month of July. Creekwood RV resort outside Helen Ga. is very nice. The owners Robert & Melissa are from West Palm I believe. They have approx. 18 shady sites with site # 9 being my favorite as it has a deck and a creek running behind it. Short drive to Brass Town Bald and only about an 1 1/2 hr drive to Gatlinburg and the Smokeys. We stayed there Oct. of 2007 and really loved it. Not a SP though..

hi from Ga... why not go a little further, Quebec is much cooler in the summer ! Just kidding, sort of. It's pretty warm in No Ga in summer. Try 91 in Hiawassee yesterday. Also very dry and dusty hiking in this drought we're having. I like Fort Mt park too. And Cloudland Canyon is pretty with day trips to Chattanooga, where there's lots to do. Regards, Craig
