Anybody use either the Joey Bed, Bedslide, or similar slide out product for the bed of a truck? I am tired of the unused space in the front of the truck bed under my camper shell. Any products or ideas appreciated.

When I had a truck with a canopy I bought a collapsible dock hook like this. Worked very well for most things.

I have a Bedslide that I bought used for $100 from a guy who had it laying on the side of his house. I brought it home and chopped it up and made a heavy duty frame for underneath the slide rails and made the 2 slide frames narrower to fit my Bobcat welding machine and mounted the machine on top of the slide and mounted that in the back of my welding truck so I can slide the welder forward in the truckbed for transport (for weight balance) and pull it back to the tailgate so I can reach the controls on the machine without climbing into the truckbed.

It works very well and I am quite happy with it. The welder with a full tank of gas and the slide under it weighs about 1000 lbs and it slides back and forth easily and locks into position. I also welded some safety catches on each end so it can't accidentally slide off the end of the truck if I go to slide it out when parked on a hill and also so the slide can't 'jump the track' if I hit a really big bump.

Here are some pics-

This is the only pic I have that shows the machine slid forward. It slides forward about 2 feet and I keep a hand truck in that space between the welder and the tailgate. It can slide further out than in the pics above, to about even with the end of the tailgate when down, but I don't need to slide it out that far to reach the controls.

I have the Bedslide in my Dodge under the shell. It works very well. I have had it loaded down and it does work as advertised. I bought the middle of the raod model with the sides for the deck and 4 rollers. My only advice would be to get the top of the line model with the 6 rollers. When really loaded down my 4 roller deck is a bit difficult to roll out. I added a storage box along the street side of the slide and can still get a lot of "stuff" on the deck. And yes, it makes it much easier to untilize the area up front. If you are interested, PM me and I can send a couple of pictures.

One more thing. Check Craig's List for these Bed Slide and other similar units used at great prices. I see them occasionally on there. None so far as cheap as I paid, but have seen quite a few in the $300 range.

Thanks SoCal fot the Craiglsit idea. I found one locally like new, with some nice modifications made to it for $350. Once again the camping forum and community have been a major asset.
