I KNOW you're kidding, and I hope everyone else knows too. From some of the posts I've seen on this forum, it's probably best to make that clear.

Check for insect debris in the box.. It's happend that a bug can occasionally bridge the wires
In fact that is why we call computer problems "Bugs" the original "Bug" in a computer was, in fact an insect that got himself quick fried when the flip. flopped or some such. (Caused a problem with the computer too) and ever since we have refered to gremlins in computers as "Bugs"
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Just noticed: The 3 (truck camper) lights do not come on with just the shore power. They only work when the camper is plugged into the truck battery. Haven't had this camper very long and we can't remember if we've ever tried the lights without being plugged into the truck. Should they work with just shore power only?

Do not know about your camper lights.
The next time you have the cracking/popping/smelly symptoms Disconnect all sources of power, open up the box(s), feel around for heat and locate whatever is hot. The hot spot is where the problem is.

They didn't say how many lights total were in the camper nor did they say if the water pump or anything else 12 volt worked. So I doubt that the converter is toast, but it might not be working properly.

Depending on the converter there may be two 12 volt systems in the rig.. So the phrase "You may have toasted your converter" still applies.. Also, the key word MAY implies "May Not" as well.
But the converter is still suspect in this case.. So is the fuse for the light line,, So are the wires hooked to that fuse.

We only have 3 ceiling lights in this little camper. Everything works on the shore power (a/c, outlets, water pump) except those three ceiling lights. It appeared that none of the fuses were blown, but will be checking them again tomorrow to be sure. We have not heard any more popping nor smelled anything hot today while checking the converter out off and on today. Even plugged in a quartz heater and nothing happened. Tomorrow will have an electrician look at it while getting new tires on the truck.
