I'm planning a late summer vacation which will take me from Crater Lake to the Grants Pass area, and from Bandon to Gold Beach (all in Oregon). These appear to be short driving distances so I'd like to take the opportunity to stop along the way (on both routes) and do some sightseeing. I'll be in a Class A, so the sites will need to be accessible to a larger sized vehicle.

I'll take all of your suggestions. I'll be driving from Southern California and will most likely never be in that area again (too much of the US to see - too little time), so I'd like to experience and see as much as I can !

As always, thanks for your help.

John

Why not head further up the Oregon Coast and check out Florence, Yachats and Newport? All those places tend to get a lot quieter at the end of summer (Sept) and the weather is usually great. The total RT from Bandon to Newport is 240 miles, but if you're not gonna be up here again, you might consider seeing more of the Oregon Coast. You might consider Grants Pass/Crater Lake/Eugene/Newport and then head S down the Coast to Yachats, Florence, Bandon and Gold Beach.

I agree with bruce3404 the coast is so beautiful we went last year to Florance, there is a beautiful aquarium to see and a million light houses and a lot cooler that central Oregan.

I have lived in Oregon my whole life and I have not seen it all. I travel a lot, but most of the time we never leave the state.
Just stay off the interstate and stop at the little town museums and waystops.

I (2-10-05) bought a 2002 F350 CC SWD PSD and a new 2003 Citation 10'8. Rancho 9000X & Toyo M55's.I have been a tent camper all my life. I wanted more comfort while doing my Willamette Backcountry Ski Patrol & Crater Lake Ski Patrol duties.11

Agree with all of the above. Would add the Air Museum in McMinnville to see the Spruce Goose.

Crater Lake is one of the must sees. The Oregon Coast and the state parks along the coast are unbeatable.

Enjoy your trip

BigJohn,

I agree with others and think that you would be missing the best part of the Oregon coast if yu don't go at least as far as Newport. The aquarium is in Newport and has pleanty of parking and is where Keiko was housed before they tried to return him to the wild. Florence has the dunes and the Siuslaw River, Yachats is a throw back town when the towns on the OR coast were 25 miles (approx) apart.

Try to spent a few more days and see some of the prettiest area in OR.

west of Portland, Seaside Oregon, a quaint beach town, but the have something special. The Oldest Sitka Spruce in the contiguous 48 states. It is 700 years old, about a 40foot diameter, the NPS built a deck around the trunk (helps protect the drip line)

Continue north to Astoria. It is the oldest city on the west coast.
