I am going to Lake George RV park for the first time with my wife, 2 dogs and a 11 year old boy and 4 year old boy, we are leaving on Sunday for two weeks.
I am looking for suggestions - such as....
Does the campground take requests for sites, when do I make a request for a site and any suggestions on what to request?
Beside great escape, what should we put on our "must do" list?
Any things we should do at the campground itself - example of little know things???

Suggest to be in the lower area. This is better for kids, more room, closer to ice cream and two pools, one in and one out and closer to theater and shows. They have a lot going on. we like renting a boat and going on the lake, up by paradise bay there is a rope swing off a rock which is cool, log bay is a good place to park a boat and you can wade in and follow the trail up to a waterfall. Make sure you go to Grandmas back porch, on rt 9 above town, AWESOME breakfast also the Adirondack is a good place to eat. My family enjoyed the dinner cruise as well, and they do fireworks every thrusday(i think) by million dolar beach.

i hope you have a reservation allready its a very popular place you could choose your site most likely if you knew the spot you wanted and it wasnt reserved allready,the great escape,theres a go kart track on rt 9 south of the great escape along with arcades ,mini golf places all over,theres a super wallmart and malls if you need anything,factory malls you can go to the trolly at the park will take you there and back,theres bike/walking trails at the park that connect to the county bike trail that goes to the village of lake george,theres fort william henry at the head of the lake in the village,cruise ships for rides on the lake and dinner cruises,there santas village for younger kids on rt 9 befor the village,water parks,plus what ever the towns around have going on at the time,you wont run out of things to do if you want to keep busy.

That is a good track, just past Great Escape and on the opposite side (on the right as you're heading there.) I was just there a few weeks ago and had a blast. Try to get kart #13, it was a hot one and I was burning up the track with it! That's me making my own lane on the inside about to pass a friend.
Also, on the corner of 9 and 149 there's the Log Jam restuarant, only about a 1/2 mile from the park. We had lunch there that was quite good. Dinners are also supposed to be good. I hear the deserts are to die for, but the lunch portions were so big nobody had room for any desert!
You might also consider driving up to the top of Prospect Mountain. Here's a shot from the top, looking at Lake George (the village) and the end of Lake George (the lake.)
I wish I had some shots of the campground, but I didn't take any.
As for the park, there are a variety of different types of sites. When making reservations, they suggest that unless you've been there and know what you're asking for, that you don't ask for a specific area or site, and just state what kind of site you want (sunny, shady, secluded, near facilities, etc.) and they will place you in an appropriate area. I asked for a secluded shaded site, and that's exactly what I got.

Go to Lake George public park in middle of town, They have an unbelievable fireworks show every Thursday during the summer. Also across from Great Escape is the best ice cream shop around. The nightly shows in the park are terrific, but get there early. Have fun.

I second the Ausable Chasm. It's amazingly beautiful. If memory serves, it's about an hour 1/2 up the road (like 30 mi. from the Canadian border). If your eldest is in to history, Fort Ticonderoga isn't all that far north. But, right in Lake George Center like someone else said is Fort William Henry.
Free is Prospect Mountain - nice hiking area. Beautiful views of the lake.
We're big water people, so we enjoyed spending time at Waterslide World 2 of the times we went. You can rent motorboats up and down the lake, too. We did that one year. And, the dinner cruise is nice - apparently they have other options now which may be easier on the wallet.
We always wanted to do some cheesy stuff like the Painted Pony Rodeo - BBQ and a rodeo, but never got the chance to.
I know you're youngest is 4, but if someone wants alone time w/ the 11 yr. old, there's local rafting that is just a blast. We went prior to the youngest being born w/ my older son and the last time, my youngest son was 3, so we obviously didn't go.
