Main difference is the payload, a 3500 can handle more pin weight than a 2500.

You will never get to the gcwr on the 2500hd because you will max out the gvwr first.

For the last few yrs, the duallys have been 23500, the SW 3500 and 2500HD have been 22K gcwr.

Otherwise, any of the three will pretty much pull what ever you want, but the 2500 will have as little as 2000 lbs of payload for a loaded leather EVERY option 4x4, to as much as 4500 lb for a striped reg cab. A Dually can have from 3500 lbs for a loaded leather 4x4 to as much as 6000 lbs for a striped reg cab 2wd.

The more payload, the more trailer ability you have! You can be under GCWR, but if over the GVWR or more important, the GRAWR of the Tow rig, you are unsafe! Being over GCWR, but under ALL axel limits, you are doing fine.

The rear ends are probably the same. Tires will be the big difference.

The difference in the 2 vehicles are the tires and 1 overload spring. That's all rearend and brakes are the same also.

This is the same one either one if you have a typical 5th wheel setup. The main concern is the amount of weight you can put on the rear suspension.

Now if you want to talk about a 3500HD Dually, then you can put more weight on the rear. And as most say it will be more stable, but I have never had any issues with our single rear wheel.

Pin weight is the most important thing. Research your trailer before the truck and find out REAL pin weights.... not what they have in the brochure.

a simple gear ratio change can change GCWR. The critical numbers for loading your truck are GAWR/tire caps or as some on this web uses GVWR.

Check your manual again...all GM 2500s with the diesel for 2006 have a GCWR of 22k...same for the SRW 3500.
