We want to travel to Virginia Beach and then on to Connecticut. I know the Chesapeake bridge has rules and am wondering if we can go with the propane on board. I don't know how we would go without going way out of the way.

We travel that way every year going to the Eastern Shore of VA. You can travel through the tunnel but make sure that your tank is off. They will ask you this as you get ready to pay. Have fun.

I have a 39 foot Bounder Diesel and go through the tunnel and acroos the bridge, the tunnels are a little tight as they are one lane each way but there is sufficient room and it saves 100 miles and two hours over the best traffic alternative going up through the DC and Baltimore corridors.

Have a safe and pleasant journey.

Yes, turn off your propane as you exit the toll booth if not sooner. The toll booth keeper will remind you about the propane rule.

Glad to find this post, as we have always skirted around the area because we weren't sure if MH's were allowed.

How big is you Motor Homes? I have a 40 foot, and its 12' 7 inches high.

Sumar - 18 wheelers and buses use the bridge/tunnel all the time. It's a real thrill when they go by you in the other direction as the tunnels are tight, or at least seem to be. My wife doesn't like the tunnels for that reason. I look at them as a test of driving accuracy.

Well, I'm sure I will be "white knuckling it" thru, but sounds like fun!
Next time I head down that way I'm definately going that route!
Thanks Trick322 for starting the thread!

Now who can tell me about ferries...just kidding, I'll start another thread sometime

No problems going thru the bridge & tunnels with our 37 ft Discovery towing a Tundra. We go back and forth thru there at least 6 times per year, keep in mind it will cost $28 one way. When approaching toll booths stay to the right because it's a little bit wider, I clipped the right mirror going thru the middle toll booth. They also have EZ pass now.
One other thing, put the cbbt phone number in your cell, and if the wind is blowing hard call ahead to see if there is restrictions, starting at 40 miles per hour winds they will not let you cross.

I just love those kinds of driving accuracy tests..........NOT!!!!!!

Have been thru a few I thought I was gonna fail for sure. I have a lot of respect for truck drivers who do this for a living.
