Out of the blue, our 5 year + old microwave (Dometic) started beeping in the middle of the night. When I checked it out, it had the number "5" lit up on the display panel.
I cleared the panel and everything seemed OK. A couple of minutes later, it did it again ... this time displaying a couple of "5's".
Cleared it again. After the third time, I poppped the circut breaker to get a good night's rest.
When reengaged, the microwave timer/panel will count down but the magnatron (sp?)will not come on. Most of the panel's functionality (i.e. warm, defrost etc) also do not engage properly)
Has anyone else this kind of problem? Is it simply a case of replacing the circut board or is the whole unit kaput? ~ bugjr ~

Hope this helps, this is what we ran into.
Something similar has happened off and on with our microwave at home. From what I have read, it is probably due to steam / moisture getting up into the circuit board behind the keyboard. We turned off our home microwave for about a week, and also when cooking we try to use burners not directly under the keypad (our microwave is over the stove). It has been a couple months now, and our microwave seems to be working fine. As I said, nowadays we try to avoid cooking / boiling directly under the side of the microwave with the keypad. Also, make sure you use the over the stovetop vent fan if you have one.
From what I read, the moisture problem is not really fixable by your average person. For the cost of having a repair technician "fix" it, you may as well buy a whole new one.

You could have several problems... bad capacitor, bad transformer, bad mag, blown temp limit switch on mag, or door logic interlock switche not making (working). You may end up replacing a good board and it still will not work.
You can probably buy a replacement oven for less than you can buy repair parts to fix it.

What ever you do don't leave it plugged in. This happened to my niece and she didn't unplug it. It caught on fire and burnt her house down. So make sure you unplug it.

Only when it displays '666' do you really need to worry!
We once wasted a wad of money having a microwave/convection oven 'repaired'. It failed again about two weeks (and 1200 miles) later and we had to buy a new one, anyway.

We thought 'Boy were we lucky when it went to "555"!
I'll unplug it tonight as it is still plugged in. We don't want to spend a ton of dough fixing it as new microwaves are fairly cheap.

Our microwave was a Samsung in our last camper and would do almost the same thing, including turning on on it's own. The microwave had a recall on it and it was fixed. Are you sure it's a dometic and not a Samsung? Just thought I would pass along our experience.
