We pull out at dawn in the morning for a 10 day trip. Our first since the old Bounder completed her makeover. Phase one was done in March.... most of the automotive electrical was replaced, a new Suburban furnace, new bed, new nightstands and tables, new blinds and the wallcoverings were taken out and the walls primed and painted. Late spring and early summer saw Phase Two......New radiator and the rest of the cooling system, new Bilstein shocks (just got those yesterday... wow what a difference!). Half a dozen parts replaced on the generator. Finished replacing the last of the rubber hoses & belts. For those wondering, no, we don't expect to recoup our investment in this oldie. Everything we do is for our own safety, comfort, or convenience.

Here's to a breakdown-free trip!

First stop is Carmel, CA. Trading the triple digit weather for a nice cool 67. We'll be there for dog shows over the weekend, then down 101 to Buellton. We'll spend a couple of days at Flying Flags, then over to Jalama to spend a couple of days with my folks, who are camp hosts over there right now. Then down to Oxnard for another weekend of shows.

Wish list is for cool weather, light traffic, no breakdowns, quiet neighbors, and some Qualifying ribbons for the dog!

Good Luck on your maiden voyage!
You will wonder why you didn't get the MH sooner.

We will be looking for results daily from the shows.
I'm actually kicking around doing the Dixon, CA circuit.

I am thinking of Bilsteins too before heading to California.
Albiet I don't need shocks, but forum members rave about them.

What did you feel different and did it make the ride harder?
I don't want to trade my wonderful ride I already have for a stiffer ride. Did it change anything for the better with front handling?

Thank. Not quite our maiden voyage... THAT was Palm Springs last January, rig came home on a tow truck!
We've been out a few more times since then for little weekend shows, nothing over 150 miles, though.
DH and I are both teachers, so major work had to wait for summer, as did the longer trips.

I haven't driven the MH since the Bilsteins, but from a passenger point of view much less bounce... the porpoise feel is gone. Recovery time coming over a driveway is much less! Yes, a stiffer ride, but that's what we were looking for... previous shocks were worn out, and too loose anyway.

The Dixon venue is nice.. very accessible fairgrounds. Do you mean the shows at the first of August, or the end of October?

I probably won't have internet access till Sunday night, possibly not till Wednesday, so results will have some lag time. Of course MB-F puts them up pretty quick, so the big fat NQ will already be there for the world to see!

Just got off the phone with my dad... Mom is in the hospital. Not in great shape. Trip is still on, but I'll be on pins and needles. Positive thoughts are much appreciated.
Part of the trip is to see them anyway, we can always extend that leg of the trip if need be.

Well, we made it to Carmel. I didn't expect to have internet access on the show site, so this is a big perk!

First test of the Bilsteins out on the interstate. Money VERY well spent! Then we get to the school where the shows are held, and have to go "off-roading" over grass and dirt fields to get to our spot. Again, the new shocks saved the day.

Only two minor mechanical issues so far. First was a smell of coolant as we came up the grade on SR-46. We stopped in Paso Robles to check it... seems DH didn't fully tighten the radiator cap this morning when he checked the fluids! Our temps stayed OK on the climb, even without optimal pressure. We let it cool off and replaced about a quart of water. Had a bit of a mess in the engine compartment from the fine mist of coolant, though. Got the power steering belt wet, so it squealed for a little while.

Second problem was when we arrived at the show site. We were early, and in a long line of RV's waiting to park (normal at shows). Since it was going to be a while, we shut off the engine. When we finally got an escort to take us to our spot, we couldn't get started! To make a long story with a lot of angst very short, a bolt had come loose on the starter... the one holding the cable from the starter solenoid. Once the loose bolt was located, it was a quick fix and we were setting up camp.
The weather here is great, a nice change from the 111 degrees at home yesterday. We are really close to our rings, which is good. The obedience rings are next to a busy road, though. That's bad. Can't win 'em all.

Besides the small stuff seem as though you are having a good time. Hope your mother will be getting better soon.

As far as obedience training for Harlee, I think she could win the prize for doing three commands with just one.

I tell her to sit and she will sit, then go into a down/stay command position automatically...

My old gaser is built very sturdy. Inside redone and alot of updating........I am now happily enjoying both the ride and camping in her.

Best wishes in all.
