Each NF web site is a little different. Look for Recreation and then look for camping.
This web site does give length info.
Example:
Bonney Meadow | CLOSED DUE TO SNOW | $10 | 6 sites - 16 ft. max |
Campground
4,800 ft. elev
Access via Forest Road 4891.
I (2-10-05) bought a 2002 F350 CC SWD PSD and a new 2003 Citation 10'8. Rancho 9000X & Toyo M55's.I have been a tent camper all my life. I wanted more comfort while doing my Willamette Backcountry Ski Patrol & Crater Lake Ski Patrol duties.11

When we camp in OR: Camping!Oregon. is our reference. It has good info on most of the public as well as a few private cg's in OR. It rates them also. It has been a good investment. I also own, Camping!Washington.
I also recommend, the Coleman NF cg book.

With a larger rig it is nearly impossible to determine if I can fit by the information given in any book I have seen so far. Best solution is make a day trip to the area and investigate the camp grounds. I make a list of the sites that i believe i can get into and then when I make reservations I look only for those sites.

To all that responded, thank you so much. I will hit Barns and Nobel tomorrow and see about the Coleman book. I am concerned about dragging a 34 ft fifth wheel to one of these campgrounds only to find that the roads resemble the Ho Chi Min Trail with no turn around. I checked into two Alpenlite clubs but have had no response from my enquiries. I though a club might be the way to go and also learn from others great places to visit. I keep looking. Thanks again

You don't mention what kind of rig you have?
We like those out of the way Oregon/CA campgrounds too. But be warned, we found most to really be geared for tent camping with short pull-in lengths. We have a short Class C, so we could pull into many/most of them. However, what we pulled into was the car parking spot for a TENT camping area over to the side of the car parking spot. So .... the car parking spot was often way off level (while the intended tent area would be level), so a lot of blocking was required to get our rig anywhere near level. Some we had to give up on, as we didn't have enough blocks along or we didn't want our rig that high in the air!

If you have a 34ft 5er, I highly recommend you take a day trip to check out a NFS CG prior to taking the 5er there. We mostly camp at NFS CG's with our 28ft 5er. Over the years, we have visited a number of NFS CG's on day trips to check out the sites.

I have used www.forestcamping.com and www.freecampgrounds.com to find inexpensive camping opportunities. Once I find a place that sounds interesting, I use Google earth to 'scout' the place. This gives me a spatial orientation to the campground as well as what is in the area.

We also do the recon trips before heading into the neighboring forests. Glad I have on a few occasions -- no problems with the campsites, but I wouldn't want to take the MH up some of the access roads...
- 2005 Winnebago "Minnie" 31C (was a three-time Jayco owner)
- 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic toad (had Ram 2500 CTD, Durango, Liberty...)
- Onan Microquiet 4000, plus 130W solar and Honda EU2000i twins for backup
