We are coming from Pennsylvanin in our class A Motorhome. During our journey, we will be staying at Lopez Lake in or near San Luis Obispo. AAA created a triptik for us and it takes us from Lopez Lake to Las Vegas via the 101, the 134, the 210 to the 15. We are really nervous about traffic on the 101 and possibly the 134 and 210. Does anyone know a different route that would be ok to drive in a mh which will be towing my jeep cherokee? We would like to bypass the 101 to avoid traffic. We will be traveling on a Tuesday. When I look at the map it looks like 58 goes across the state but I can't tell what kind of road that is. It is definitely not a major road from the looks of it on the map. Anyone have any suggestions?

You could drop south on 101 to Hwy 166, go over to the big B, then take Hwy 58 east and it will dump you into the 15 at Barstow. Hwy 166 is a 2 lane, but we pull our 34' 5er over it with no problems.

Anything you could do to stay away from 101 and 210 in the LA area would be a good idea. I've done it once and will NEVER do it again. Way too much traffic. On the other hand, I've used Hwy 58 out of Bakersfield to Hwy 15 into Vegas several times and never had a problem. Very nice and easy drive. Takes about 5 hours at 60MPH.

Go to Paso Robles and take the 46 across to the 99. Then take the 99 south to Bakersfield and pick up the 58 east to get you to the I15 north in Barstow. The 46 is a great road, lots of rv's travel it. You can even see where James Dean died if you want.
Do not take the 58 across from SLO to the I5, it's a very tight and windy road that sport bikes love.

Hwy 46 route will add 50 miles to Bakersfield as apposed to Hwy 166 plus a ton of traffic....JMHO
Pismo to Paso to Bakersfield = 188 miles
Pismo to Hwy 166 to Bakersfield = 141 miles

Lake Lopez is to the East of Pismo Beach.
A good 15 to 20 miles to San Luis Obispo.
Ditto on 101 south to 166 and then 58 out of Bakersfield to Barstow and then I15 North.
