Does anyone have experience in driving HWY 101 from Brookings, Or. to Eureka, Ca? Do you suggest taking 101? Also any experience on HWY 299 from Eureka, Ca. to Redding, Ca.? I have a 35ft class A and a toad.

Not sure what other choice you would have beside 101 from Brokkings to Eureka. 101 is a fine road and you woill have no troubles with it.
299 on the other hand is a bit twisty and has been closed off & on the last couple of weeks due to fires.

There is no alternate-- 101 is the only route from Brookings to Eureka and it is just fine--
As for 299 over to Redding-- There is nothing horrible about the road but it seems as though it takes a week or more to get across there--
If you don't need to go through Eureka enroute to Redding I strongly suggest 101 south to 197 which meets 199 east to Interstate 5 and south to Redding-
If you are going farther south and don't need to go through Redding then take 101 south to 20 and then east to Interstate 5 at Williams--

To my mind the better route is 199 from Crescent City to Grants Pass and I5 south to Redding. I have only been the full length on 299 once and was sick the whole time.

101 is something of a "jekyll & hyde" highway between Brookings and Eureka. At times it is a fine 4-lane highway with wide shoulders, sweeping curves, and gentle grades. At other points, notably just south of Crescent City and at Big Lagoon, it reverts to a rather twisting 2-lane road with marginal shoulders. These slow sections, fortunately, are rather short, and the highway overall is very nice.

We just did it last week, going from Bandon down thru Eureka to SF area. The road is just fine, lots of trailers and MH's along the way. Easy as pie in our MH, nice roads even thru the Avenue of the Giants to look at the redwoods.
If you can, stop at Samoa and go to the cookhouse for a meal. Lots of fun and good food, and only about 6 miles off of 101.
