are the bunks in 5th wheel and travel trailers a generic size or do they come in a bunch of different sizes? Pretty vague question i know but...

They will probably be all over the place. Generally speaking they will range from 30 to 36 inches wide and 65 to 72 inches long.

Jayco have 5ers with 2 standard bunks, some with 2 large bunks on the bottom and 2 on the top, 4 standard size bunks in a rear bedroom, and 4 standard size bunks in the front bedroom. Other brands have multiple bunk selections too.

My Flagstaff has the wide bunks in it. Close to twin width. It was one of the features that "sold" the unit as my daughters are older (21 and 16).
Most websites that have floor plans will provide the dimensions of the beds. You might check those out to give you a "short list" of units to consider.

Our Keystone Sprinter 311BHS has three twin size bunks and one smaller one. The bunkhouse also has much storage space. We're very pleased with the configuration! Great for our grandson as there is room for the pack&play in the bunkhouse.

I have a laredo 30BH and the three bunks are 38" wide the same as a twin bed. that's what sold us on the unit. we only needed two, so we took the matress out of the bottom and that is additional storage.

The range is from 28" to nearly 48" . In general I would stay away from those that are 28" wide. Try sleeping on a 28" bunk.

One other thing to watch for is load capacity of the bunks. I have seen this as low as 150 lbs. That would be fine for a child, but not for a teenage boy or adult. You probably won't find that info on the web site.

Think I've seen 3 sizes - I haven't measured but one size looks like a standard twin bed - another looks narrower than a twin and the largest looks larger than a twin perhaps a double.
My Jayco has twins on one side and narrower on the other
