I would like to make this game for the family. Making the ladders is pretty straight forward, but I'm not sure of the best way to make the bolo balls. What have other people done? What seems to work the best?
Thanks,

"wiki-how-to"
another link
and yet another....
Personally, I thought it'd be kinda neat to make some "monkey fist" balls instead of using golf balls....

When I first had our ladder game, complete with self-drilled and roped gtolfballs our grandsons - then 10 and 8, came to visit. It wasn't long before the younger one came in wiha huge know on his head from an"over throw" (accident or intentional?? LOL) by the older!
I promptly found used tennis balls - drilled and roped theim anad said- "no more golf balls"!
Now we and neighbors always prefer the tennis balls.

Thanks everyone for you responses.
I thought about buying one from Walmart, but I think I can build a better quality one for about the same amount of money. Especially since I have most of the pvc pipe just taking up space in the garage...

I bought a bag of cheap multi-colored golf balls at Walmart and some multi-colored nylon rope from Home Depot. Drilled holes in the yellow, orange, purple, and white balls, put the rope thru, tied small knot, and melted the end with propane lighter. Colored balls and the multi-colored rope looks great and allows up to 4 players.

I used a Forsner bit to drill a 'cradle' in a piece of wood for the golf balls to set in while drilling. Drilled the 1/4" holes through the center of the golf balls in a drill press using a 'brad-point' drill bit.
Rope used was 1/4" cotton sash (clothes line) material.
Decided to use the cotton rope rather than nylon, as it doesn't stretch as much.

Making your own set is the way to go IMO.

I put the golf balls in a vice and drilled a 3/8 hole through. Used 24" of nylon rope for each bolo (your length will depend on how far apart your rungs end up = test one first = I opted to make it impossible to wrap 2 rungs at the same time) - tied a small half knot (?) - melted each knot with a propane lighter.
