I know this coach isn't for everyone, but I wonder if they will bring back the 4 cyl Isuzu diesel powered rig? They use to also use a chevy diesel, but could op for one of the diesels that powers Chrysler pick ups (lots of power) intead.

I don't know, just thinking out loud...

I used to be a Trek fan until I gave up looking for used ones. They were rare around here. I really liked the drop down bed idea but apparently not many others did or they'd be standard equipment on modern coaches.

Afterwards I heard from some Trek owners who pretty much agreed the Isuzu 4 cyl. was way underpowered for such a big coach (26' I believe) Up a steep hill on an interstate was about 35-40 mph max. I don't recall if that was with a toad or not.

I heard the Chevy diesel was more power but much less reliability.

Anybody heard different?

Isuzu no longer has a presence in the US, so the return of that engine is unlikely. Chrysler diesel pickups are powered by Cummins engines, a version of the ISBx, I believe.

Here in Florida, the Isuzu was "ok". I got one up to 67 mph going down hill on the Turnpike once! But the owners who knew what they were getting into seemed to love them. At one time they actually made a 33 footer with two queen beds. The most popular was the 24 ft, and sold well here locally. I have always been a fan of the 24, it is like a 33 foot Class A with no bedroom. The diesel used was the real diesel engine from GM, not the converted gas block, so they seemed to be fairly reliable. Great coaches if you can find one in good shape......

So we will no longer see the Isuzu powered delivery trucks? SunState Rentals uses the Isuzu utility trucks to service their equipment. I asked several service reps and delivery drivers about the milage and performance. One service rep who services our Genset said he has over 100K miles, with no problems.

I can't remember the delivery companies name at the moment, but the driver said when the truck was loaded the power was ok.

There will be sacrifices/compramises when trying to solve the MPG issue or give a manufacture another viable product to sell. Way back when, remember the VW van...well thinking back that went south did't it...Ooops...

Isuzu-poweered Treks at a decent price are scfarce as hen's teeth.

Probably just as scarce as service facilities and parts.

Dealer presence can't compare to at least one or two Cat/Freightliner/Cummins dealers every few hundred miles across North America, usually open 24 hrs and often on weekends.
