Hi, I'm Shannone and I am co-hosting a FAMILY CAMPING rally next Memorial Day weekend here in Michigan. We are looking for other camping families to join us for a fun weekend. My kids by then will be 15,12 and 8 and would love to meet some kids to hang out with. I know there are lots of families in MI/OH...I've seen you post !! Come on out and join is.

When- May 22,23,24 2009
Where- Lake Huron Campground We tried to find a place within a two hour drive of the metro Detroit area. This campground is supposed to be an hour and 20 minutes from Detroit and 2 hours from Toledo. Of course we all know about the construction here in Michigan so I promise nothing

The Details-

1- We choose Memorial Day because we thought a long weekend may be easier for people coming from another part of the state, or even neighboring states. There is a 3 night minimum as it is a holiday. Typically we'd have to pay all 3 nights in advance, but Jill, one of the reservation managers, worked it out with our group so we only need to pay a one night deposit at time of booking. They will call you in January when the new rates come out and give you your balance and you pay it at that time.

2- I am booked on site #259 which is a full hook up pull through. There are many openings in that part of the campground still so when you call give them my name and tell them you are part of the rally and they will put you as close to us as possible (if that is what you want).

3- There will be family/kid activities that whole weekend. There is also a heated pool, beach, rental bikes and golf carts, playgrounds, mini-golf, nature trails and more.

4- ONE OF THE NICE THINGS about booking at this campground is that for the long weekend they give us a 6:00pm check out time on Monday at no extra charge. Which means if you check in on Friday you really will have just about 3 full days to enjoy at the campground.

5- We will host a meet & greet and maybe a potluck meal at some point over the weekend. This will be a very casual get together. Those of us with kids or that work during the week will appreciate the fact that we aren't going to have any 7:00 breakfast meetings, lol. (Unless my co-host wants to host them)

6- This campground does allow campfires so maybe a few of can take turns hosting an evening campfire where we can get to know each other. We can also set up some tables for cards. Everyone here knows how to play Euchre, right ??

We hope you come out and join us. It would be really nice to meet some other families that enjoy camping in this area. The sooner you call and book your site, the better chance you have of being near the group. Please just post on here if you do end up booking a site so I can keep a list.

THANKS !!

We normally spend Memorial Day weekend at Cedar Point, however, I'll put this on our calendar so it's there when we start planning next year's events.

When are you coming back to Cedar Point? We still have 4 trips planned for CP this year--and at least one of them has the possibility of having extra tickets available...

It would be great to see you both again.

We will be at Cedar Point Oct 17-19. This time we are allowing extra time in case we want to go back to the park on Sunday. It was such a bummer last year after you offered us the tickets and we couldn't use them !!

What a fun idea! I think we've corresponded before about family camping groups in MI. I'm going to check the website to see if reservations are available. My children will be 13 and two nine year olds and they love camping with other kids as well. I'll post if we get a site. Great idea!

How funny... we are actually leaving for this campground tonight for our annual twins club campout that I coordinate. Jill has been fantastic to work with and I am super excited to actually get there. We took a ride up there to check out the campground last October and their facilities are very nice. I'll let you know how things go after the weekend.

I'm not sure what our plans are for next year camping but I will definitely talk to my husband about the option. We have twins who are 5 and a 2 year old. They love making new friends and camping with other kids!

Anyone else out there interested in attending ?? So far just two of us have booked our sites (#258 & #259). We'd love to have more people join us.

I will have to give this one some thought. Does the campground fill up fast?

When I set this up a few weeks ago they did not have many bookings for Memorial Day weekend yet. However being a holiday weekend, I would try to book it before the end of this camping season. Normally you would have to pay for all 3 nights ahead of time since it is a holiday. For us though, Jill was willing to make an exception and you only have to put down on night. You also get to choose your campsite.

We will be attending. We are on site #8 which is full hook up on the waterfront. Girls will be 13 by then. Yes we also play Euchre. Maybe we could host a fire at are site on night and the kids can fish right at our site if they want.
