When I turn the key to turn the engine I get a clicking sound. I have to use the AUX start switch to start the coach. Should driving the RV charge the engine battery? Or do I need to get that jumped then run it? I have used the AUX start to start engine and drive but engine battery is still not charging. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

You can use the aux switch to jump start the engine... its just like hooking a set of jumper cables to batteries. The alternator should be charging the chassis batteries when engine is running. You may have a bad battery.

Either have the battery checked or buy a new one.

Are the house batteries charging while the engine is running? Does the ammeter show a charge while engine is running? If "Yes", get a new starting battery.

Your problem may be the alternator itself. If you put a battery meter on the battery, you should see 13.5 + volts while the engine is idling. If not, the alternator is the problem. You may still need a new battery, due to a failing alternator.

Thank you for your quick responses! The battery itself is only a year old. I will do the checks you suggested and give a report. THANKS!

Depending on the age of the coach, if the battery and altenator check out ok, one thing overlooked is the cables to the battery they do go bad over time. If the resistance is high the cables will deliver a reduced voltage at the starter and you will not be able to start your vehicle have a resistance check of the cables.

Another thing to check would be the battery to chassis ground wire. Also if you have a battery hydrometer check the specific gravity of the sulfuric acid in each cell. That is a quick check, you might have a dead cell in the battery but not too likely if the battery is only one year old.

If the battery is only a year old you might just be having problems with the connections. Clean and tighten all connections if the battery checks out good. If the connections have been bad for awhile you might not be getting any charge into the battery and you will have to charge the battery before testing it.
Good Luck!
