The idea that the coach manufacturer is not responsible is ludicrous. They built the motor home and are responsible for everything. Just like an auto manufacturer takes responsibility for any component they installed. They have leverage with all manufacturers and we do not.

I don't get the thing "Gas vs DP", looks like this was a fault of the Mfg(CC) and it would not make any difference what make or model, they all make mistakes usually about the same, Question do they Own up and take care of the Problem..,at least symathy,or crying towel or kiss off!!JMO

The bill for this damage is in excess of $15,000.00. The radiator is made of aluminum and a revised part has been designed to prevent future failures, but Country Coach has not informed owners of the potential failure of the original design. Had they, we could have saved the $7,000.00 Allison rebuild charges. This is a gross failure on the part of Country Coach. Country Coach denies any responsibility. It could not be blamed on lack of maintenance since scheduled transmission service is at 100,000 miles and the sudden failure of the radiator/transmission cooler instantly destroys the transmission. The cost of a new radiator is over $5,000.00. Of course, labor, flushing and new coolant and tranny fluid costs, and shipping charges for these heavy bulky parts have to be added-in. These are not small expenses...... totaling additional thousands of dollars.

I think you need to talk with someone at the Freightliner facility if you feel the costs seem excessive. Have you done this, have you checked the price of a trans rebuild at other facilities? Why can't the radiator be repaired, or the cooler fittings plugged and an external cooler used? What are flushing costs for if the trans is being rebuilt and the radiator replaced? The only thing left are the lines to the cooler, they can be made locally for dollars if the charge to flush is too high.

It is up to you to attempt to reduce the bill if you think it is excessive. Start asking some questions instead of accepting everything you are told as the only way it can be done. Posting here, searching the internet for problems, complaining about the poor design by Country Coach might make you feel better. But your real complaint seems to be the cost and it is up to you to attempt to reduce it to what you feel is a reasonable amount for the repair.

Quoted from a deleted post:

As for a $15k repair bill, compared to the outlay for our coach, it's just another expense. I hope that I never have to do that, of course, but if we do, it won't make me wonder why I have a DP instead of a gasser.

But a lot don't seem to understand the costs up front. And a $15,000 repair is more apt to be needed on an older used motor home that cost $25,000 than a new one that cost 10 times as much.

There is a mystique to a diesel engine in the motor home world, they run for 300,000+ miles without problems, they are indestructible with normal maintenance. Diesels are really good engines, the drive trains and chassis are well built. But they are not indestructible, and they are not cheap to repair when they break.

It really would serve the motor home community well to understand this instead of believing that a diesel engine in a heavy duty chassis is a cheaper combination to operate than a gas engine in a light duty chassis. Because of this mindset when there are problems the owner is totally amazed when the bill is presented.

Try to get the auto manufacturer to solve your problem when the car is 5 years old.

Any new GM car or truck has a limited powertrain warranty good for 5 years 100k miles.

What sort of guarantee does one get when they buy a new $450,000 HOUSE?? Im willing to bet it aint 5 years!! CC's give you 1 year ( or at least used to) like most or all of the other coach builders do.

This is unfortunate..surely..but that radiator..etc..was built by someone else and supplied to CC ( and other coach makers)..and the flaw lies on THEIR shoulders. Just as an example..when the paint peeled off my entry door..and it was because of galvanic corrision because the door ( thats suppllied to CC..not built BY them) wasnt treated properly..but guess what?? I had reported a POTENTIAL problem ( wasnt sure just what was happening) after 6 months and they had me repair it when the coach was a full 2 years old

A lot of this GUFF about how badly people are treated by CC is just that..HOT AIR

I fully realize that Alaska isnt the most populated state in the union...but Id have the ties worn off my toad hunting for somewhere OTHER THAN Freightliner to do a job for ME such as whats proposed..and the price...LMAO..you would hear me LMAO all the way to San Diego if they quoted ME a price such as that. TOTALLY ridiculous

You need to get on with life as CC is not going to do anything. As suggested a week ago find somewhere else to rebuild the tranny and add a seperate tranny oil cooler and get on with your vacation.

If people think that repairing DP/s is expensive...wait a few years till a ton of their 24K and 25K gassers with 4 slide get close to 90-100K miles on them. There will be more wrist wringing that any BB on the internet can handle

I just got off the telephone with the Cincinnati Allison people and learned a thing or two.

I was told that a BRAND NEW 3000 was in the area of $15,000....BUT...only in cases where the tranny was being sent to a (in this case coach builder) that a NEW ( factory fresh..never run) tranny used. In almost 99+% factory rebuilt trannys are used and thats in the case where the owners tranny is PURE JUNK so that "IT" cant be reused. Cost of a factory rebuilt is $6100 plus shipping right to my doorstep

"The cost of a new radiator is over $5,000.00. "..this charge is ludicrous! Period
