whew!! okay--now the dry camping and boondocking mindset has given way to setting a course for indiana--using some of the info you've given me here--i've got the power. free campgrounds and rv dumps--services of all kinds. the DH is driver--i do navigation. next is to chart my way using these facilities across the us. half the fun is in the trip planning, huh?

Yep - the planning is fun.
It sounds like your arrangement is similar to ours - DW is always referring to the Next Exit book, checking signs - my extra pair of eyes. (She's also the primary dog-walker at rest stops.) She makes each trip easier.

At least 1/2 the fun.. I too am the navigator. Just remember you only have to plan it - Driver has to drive it. Occasionally I get so happy planning I forget to stop and 'smell the roses' every once in a while. Driver gets a little grumpy with too many l-o-n-g days. Have fun.

oh yes, i love that next exit book!! got started doing the planning and navigation when we rode all the time, especially across the us (and to missouri last year). planning days on the bike is a little different than planning days in the winnie, however, and i am more than happy to get a few winks while we are still moving toward the days' goal. not easy to do when riding your own! i like to find a spot well before dark, relax, get dinner--have an evening. DH is a big mileage person tho....hard to get him to pull it over and park it.

Man I could use a good navigator that thinks the planing is half the fun, is anyone available for rent, or to give lessens?
The fact that planning is half the fun, you should either be on an adventure, or planning for the next one.
You noticed I called it an adventure, not a trip, if every thing is planed out firm before you go, its a trip. But if you might change your mind at some point, about where your going to stay, how long or what road to take, then this make it an adventure, sometimes more than others. And there much more fun, if your the adventurous type.

Yep we have had many 'adventures' even on the most planned out trips. Gotta be flexible. Stuff happens. Plans change. Some of the most remembered vacations happened just that way.

absolutely! also learned to be extremely flexible when riding. nasty road construction can be a pain, as is 50 mph winds, or wind-driven hail. can always take a road less traveled--tomorrow.
