i am a single man, no kids, three sisters, one mom, one girlfriend. after my 50 yo. sister died two years ago from one of those freak hospital things, i have said i need to be prepared for same. so i am working on a will, my big question is power of attorney over my health care ie, decisions about pulling plugs and things. due to varying and different things, i do not trust any of above people to be this person. are there third party people who you can discuss your wishes with and give them this power? can your doctor do it? any suggestions please.

In such a serious matter don't depend on OPINIONS given on an internet forum. You need to talk to an attorney who is familiar with the laws and common practices in your state/city.

JMO of course.

I don't have any children either and I wouldn't trust my brother with anything let alone my life. I talked to two of my trusted friends and asked if they would be willing to act on my behalf for medical and financial matters if I were incapacitated. They agreed and I had my attorney set it up so one was the primary agent and the other the alternate agent. I gave each of them a copy of the power of attorney that takes effect if I cannot make decisions on my own and also gave copies to my doctor, the local hospital, and my dentist. The Quicken Will Maker software explains everything well and has templates for other information which should be given to the agents.

Make sure the one who gets to decide if the plugs gets pulled isn't in line to inherit all the money.

There are two separate documents that can be prepared. We do them every day for clients. One is a Health Care Power of Attorney wherein you name the people you want to have this power. The other is a Living Will, wherein you give your physician(s) the power. Both of these documents can be found on the Ohio Bar Association website.

Would suggest you sit down with an attorney in your state, and discuss your will.

thanks for advice, and to clear up, i did not mean to imply any of these people were not trustworthy, as in thieves or anything like that, my girlfriend cant even make a decision where we go to eat, then when i decide, she has to make waiter(ess) come back two or three times before she can decide what to order, my one sister had a poor little dog that should have been put down about 6 or 9 months before she did it, my mom, who i think would have similar beliefs to me for certain circumstances, i think would still be letting my poor sister lay brain dead in hospital before she could make that decision about her child if she had that control. i have certain beliefs about extravigant measures to keep me alive, which i believe is one of the reasons for healthcare and insurance being out of sight, and also spending every last penny of a persons estate.
