we worked for the blm in quartzsite last year. when asked the same question the rangers reply was that if it does not go through a tank it is not classified as gray water. he just expected people to dig a hole away from a wash to let it run into it, a hose from any kind of a camper was in violation but tenter's could have an outside shower. Folks are allowed to catch sink water and dump it on the plants as well. just catch it before it hits any kind of tank

Thanks for the info ibdave.
What I'm figuring on is having a large Cargo trailer behind the camper for "stuff" including barrels of fresh water. I can get plastic food grade 55 gallon drums at a reasonable price to haul in fresh water.
The ability to get rid of the gray water and avoiding hauling it away really appeals to me.

Thank you for the first hand info, The rangers told us the same thing here on Forest Service land as long as you are not next to any body of water.
