I see the water lines in my springdale are just half inch pex tubing.

I want to add an out side shower and hook up a garden hose spigot off the front, is there is any reason why I cant just use pex brass fittings and stainless crimp rings ?(I already have all the brass fittings in inventory) is there some reason why they manufacturer used compression fittings ?

The compression rings are cheaper. You can go with an all PEX system or get conversion fittings to change to PVC or other systems, your choice.

MudChucker, I work for a major PEX product manufacturer and from what I have been told by engineers at work is that there are different grades of PEX. The type we make is Type A (the highest grade)and the brass fittings and stainless rings will work in this pipe safely and easily. The type of PEX in your TT might risk splitting if you use the fittings you are looking at.

Please PM me if you have any questions.

I put a faucet in my bathroom vanity for my washout so I didn't have to pull a hose through the coach. True the pex is softer than the commercial type we use in homes and buss. but I haven't had any problem with breakage or leakage.

Can the grade of PEX be determined from the writing on the side?

Any opinions on Oetiker clamps for PEX?

I believe most PEX tubing is marked to the type. Ours is marked PEXa, Wirsbo (now Uponor) is marked as PEX-a. There are other brands out there but I do not work with much of that.

The ss crimp rings are the cheapest way to go,....if you have the expensive crimper to crimp them. The compression fittings, such as "flair-it", and several other types, including the fittings that seal on the outside of the pex tube, are more for the DIY homeowner, because they don't require any tools to install. All fittings will work w/ all types of pex, but the harder stuff may have to be warmed up a little in cold weather to get them on the fittings. The harder stuff is used more for straight runs, as it will not go around smaller radius corners like the softer stuff will.

And no, I am not an expert on all this, but I have used it all. And it all seems to be compatable w/ each other.

I do have all the tools for pex stuff, and a fair inventory of the hardware... I just dont have any of the threaded compression type stuff...

I wonder if they make threaded compression to crimped fitting unions ?
