At home and on the road we try to see live plays, musicals, comedies, and some dance as much as possible without spending too much money doing it. Even small towns often have a community theater and if you are lucky enough to be there when a show is on, you should go!
Why? Inexpensive entertainment. Support the local community. Good way to meet locals. And they are often quite good productions. Some areas have great summer theater communities - like Ashland, OR, and C'oeur D'Alene, ID.
Anyone else? Where do you like? What have you seen?

Anyone else? Where do you like? What have you seen? They had one years back in Death Valley. Stopped there once. My oldest girl was in the theater for a long time, father set and watched. Yes I set and watched so many, she had me send her to Lee Strasburg school for the art in N.Y.

Yes, it's one of many reasons we landed in a big city. It's gotten a bit pricey, but we enjoy the big-name Broadway shows that come to town. We've done a couple of them in New York as well. Throughout our traveling years, many's the time we'd go to Las Vegas, Laughlin, and even to Branson, mostly for the shows. We've also been to several of the touristy locations for their annual live shows.

One of my twins was actively involved in theatre all through high school and still sings in college. Some of the high schools and community theatre groups do a magnificent job of making you feel like you are seeing a "broadway" show and for about 10 bucks. Well worth the money. If I was vacationing and the local community or school had a musical that I wanted to see, I would not hesistate to go!

We buy season tickets to see plays every year. Until my husband got sick he was in many musicals. Solos for the singing, back row for the dancing.
When we are camping we always check the local papers to see what preformances are on.

The Pewter Plough Playhouse, Cambria, CA (near San Simeon). I go to a play each time I visit.

I'm a Techie. (Crew Chief, Lighting Operator, Stage Manager, Master Carpenter, Inadvertent Actor, Person Who Magically Fixes The Unfixable In Seconds Because It Absolutely Unconditionally Has To Work NOW) I'm currently working on an associates in theatre at the local community college just as a hobby.
When I roll into a new town, I go hunting for the local live theatres. I have yet to be disappointed.
For the record: I haven't been to a movie since 1991. It's been live theatre ever since.

Backstage (Upstage Right hidden behind the curtains pulling all the strings that let Oz do his thing) usually. ;->
Broadway class productions are nice but spendy. Local productions are often more enjoyable and affordable by nearly everyone. There is a startling amount of hidden top quality talented cast, crew and really good scripts hidden away in every community I've run across so far. Don't overlook the community colleges and high school productions. What they lack in funding, they make up for in quality entertainment. Give me the choice of a local show or Broadway and I'll be at the local place most of the time.

Gobs of stuff. Probably something like 75+ different shows at this point. Most from the house seats and now a slowly growing list from backstage. Mostly I enjoy the classics or variants thereof and musicals specifically. Les Miserables, Fiddler On The Roof, Riverdance, Unsinkable Molly Brown, The Diary Of Anne Franks, The Haunted Mine At Lonesome Place, A Midsummer Night's Western (now there's one you almost certainly haven't had the opportunity to see yet but I can assure you that it'll pack the house to overflowing and then some), etc etc etc etc.

DW and I enjoy it all. U of M Duluth has an excellent program/stage if you ever find yourself up here. We were season members for many years (will be gone this winter though.)
While on the road we try to support all of the art's that we encounter. I guess I'm from the school that a bad live play is still better then a good movie at the theater.

The Lyceum Theatre in the historic town of Arrow Rock Missouri is a great place to go to see plays. Some of Broadways major stars started there.
