I am looking for suggestions for a trip I want to take next spring. I will leave Tennessee and head West. I hope to spend about 25% of my time fishing some excellent trout streams. I want to allow my direction I go depend on the fishing though.I will be going through Arkansas,Kansas,Colorado,Utah,Idaho,Wyoming,Montana,Nebraska and Missouri.
If you have some great ideas to add to those I already have, I would be very thankful.I am also looking for camping, ( dry, boondocking,Govt.,etc)along the way.
Thanks again
Whoever has a lot of stuff,of that one much will be expected in doing for others.

Head for West Yellowstone. Guides are plentiful, world class trout waters. Lots of great fishing and lots of other sights to see.

Spring is generally a poor time to fish CO, WY and MT due to the snow melt. This summer in Jackson Hole the fishing has been poor due to run off and it is 6 Aug!! It is starting to improve though. I think we will get new snow before the old stuff melts. Granted, this is an unusual year out of the last 10. Last year we were fishing the Snake in mid June. But it was an equally unusual year on the opposite extreme. Sept-Oct are generally good fishing months. But it could snow. I wouldn't come before Aug. if you want to fish the rivers. There will be some places that fish ok if they don't get a lot of snow melt. I just fished YNP yesterday and it wasn't great. I also fished it 3 weeks ago and only one guy I taked to caught anything. He fished the Firehole around dark. Said the browns would hit for about 40 min then that was it. Nothing during the day. Check the fishing reports at High Country Flies and Jack Dennis Sports for current local reports. The Greys in Alpine seems to clear first. The Green down towards Pindale, WY is next. As someone noted the South Fork below Palisades Res. and the Henry's Fork were fishing well. They are both in ID and don't get the run off. Palisades Dam controls the water to the S. Fork so it is good even with run off above the dam. I understand the best fishing on the S. Fork is from a boat. Don't know, never fished it. Before you come, call Jack Dennis and ask how it is and where they are fishing. The fish guys in all these places play it close to the vest. They want to sell you a trip. But they can be helpful if they are up to it.

I agree with ehouk, Spring is not the prime trout fishing months here. Many streams and rivers are not even open until after Memorial Day in Idaho.
There are rivers and portions of rivers that are open year round however so you can find some trout fishing. Of course some of the lakes are open for bass.
