I almost forgot! I don't have a cell phone because I am retired and that's quite and expense. My annual On Star agreement is much less than a monthly cell phone plan would be over an entire year. I use less than 100 minutes a year on the truck phone so I get the best of both worlds. Dave

"Are you talking about your phone minutes or the subscription? My subscription to the service automatically renews every year. This year I added phone minutes about 1 month prior to my subscription renewal."
the yearly subscription. I don't have the automatic renewal, that probably is the difference. If I would re-up/add phone minutes 1 month prior, I would cheat myself out of one month service.
Oh yes, I sort of do like when I get the monthly reports that all is well with my Vue.

For the 9.95 / month its worth it for me to use on star as another line to my verizon account. Saves the blue tooth madness and I just look as another safety feature. Jury is up if I will keep my On Star after the year is up.
I wish it was cheaper.......

What a scam!
Get this...
Rumor has it that Onstar is working out a deal with state police departments. Rumor also has it that Pennsylvania State Police(PSP) and Onstar are testing out the accuracy of a 1/10th mile average speed to determine if a speeding ticket can be issued. So basically the way the cards are "supposively" falling, an onstar equipped vehicle, which ALL GM cars will have Onstar by 2010, will be watched and ticketed by big brother. Tickets may be processed up to 30 days by law, and delivered by certified mail to the owner of the vehicle. Pennsylvania Departement of Transportation, PennDOT for short, has a points system when it comes to moving violations. With Onstar, speeding violations will be considered as a "Failure to obide by traffic control monitoring devices" which carries a fine the same as a speeding ticket, but does no point damage.
The only part of this info that I can confirm is that Onstar and PSP are testing the accuracy of VSS read out on the OnStar report. All the others have been rumors that have been confirmed by knowledge sources through the PSP.
Well, I hope this comes true. Tools are readily available to modify the VSS input. The speedo can be made to read anything you want.

They would need tp prove who was driving the vehicle at the time of the infraction.

I knew I should have stayed with Ford!
I have read on the Cadillac forums that all I have to do is disconnect the "box" behind the trunk carpet on the passenger side quarter panel. The only downfall to that is that the Voice Recognition for the navigation system will not work since the microphone is in the rear view mirror. I bought this 2003 Cad Seville STS used and have not renewed the Onstar. It's just there. In my other Ford vehicles, I'm safe...LOL

IIRC, that's why the photo camera tickets that are issued around here do not assess points.
