We have done them several times. A beautiful drive for those who know how to/are comfortable driving mountain roads.

Took the Blue Ridge Parkway in April of this year. I thought my roof antenna were going to break from being beat to death by the tree branches. We are only 11'6" tall, plus a couple of feet of antenna. I do not recommend the Blue Ridge Parkway as they do not trim the trees. If it was raining the branches would be smashing into your windshield. Skyline Drive was just fine however.
You can check our website travelogue for April 1.

I am parked near the parkway in NC and have driven the southern part of it in the toad. As previously said, the trees are low and close to the road, and if I had been in the rig I would have been straddling the center line to keep from getting the rig beat to death and scratched. Further north might be different, I haven't gone there yet!
Working out of my roaming home office... (currently here)

Go for it, but not on a weekend, can be crowded. Speed limit is 35 mph. You can dodge the branches moving to the center.

I was there two weeks ago. I orginally planned to drive it in the rv. I am glad I did not. You can do it in a small rv. You must be careful for branches and tunnels. The tunnels are very low on the side. You will be forced to take the middle of the road.

Thanks for the "low branch" update. It has been a couple of years since we drove them.

Blue Ridge is a great motorcycle road. That might tell you how it is for a Class A.

I just got back last week from our vacation where we spent time in smokey mountains and shenandoah and drove the parkway from one end to the other with our 30 ft pulling a toad.
The width of the road is fine, you don't have to straddle the line to avoid any trees, there are some low trees that will "exercise" the antenna though. The best part is the more than 200 overlooks where you can pull off and take a break and sight see, all but a very few of them are an easy in and out with a toad and the ones that are not are signed ahead of time.
The speed limit on most of the parkway is 45MPH and 35MPH on skyline drive. There were so few people of the road I drove at what ever speed I wanted to which was below the limit.

Yes, weekends can be crowded, especially in Oct. And when dodging branches, you may run someone off the road. Speed limit is 35mph on Skyline, mostly 45mph on the BRP. Done both 3 times end to end in my Vette, plus have driven the two southern legs dozens of times -- never in my DP, though. Very curvy. Drivingwise, lots of fun in a sports car, bound to be much less fun in a class A. BTW, the BRP is 469 miles long, Skyline about 95. Good luck, and if you see a flash of red up there, that'd be me getting around you. To other drivers up there, RVs are a PITA.
