Hi all,

I recently talked to a man who owns a 1990 Chevy Class-C. He insists that his RV averages 13mpg on long trip. He always sets the cruise control at 60mph.

This is the highest gas mileage I have ever heard of. Has anyone of you achieve this? If so, tell me about your class-C. Year, lenght, engine, cruising speed.

Thanks.

Not knowing all the particulars, makes it a little tough to really figure, but I'd guess that it's reasonable. A 20' Class C is pretty short, and probably about 30% lighter than my 31' Winnie. I get about 8 mpg, with the V-10 Ford....but was cruising at about 65-70 most of the time. Next time out, we're gonna try it a little slower, and see what we get. I also got a ScanGauge II, which I'll be monitoring while we drive....hoping that I'll be able to improve my mileage too!!

I've heard that Chevy gets a little better mileage. It's really all about weight, wind resistance and driving habits. He says he keeps it at 60 mph....he may be telling you the truth.

On my older 76 Chevy Class "C" was about 12 MPG. 26', With head winds it would drop, the worst I got was about 9 MPG. I used to do 60 MPH for the most part. Bill

On Edit: I was never really loaded, just basics for weekend use. Little or no food. Tanks never full, more towards 1/4. Nothing in tow.

We've gotten 13 mpg...flat land, wind at our tail, but that was a fluke.

Absolutley can get 13. Why not? It's not that big.

Ours is 30 feet and we've gotten as much as 12.3 pulling our HHR toad.

Depends on the weather conditions, your driving habits, good or bad fuel, and the Lord looking down upon you.

The best I've ever gotten with my 23'Chevy 350 was 9.5 mpg and that was in relatively flat country, not towing anything, and not running the dash AC.

There are optional rear end gear ratios that make all the difference. If the option was for a low 3 to 1 it would get real good MPG's. Some GM's with rear wheel drive had 2.78 to 1 rear ends that gained about 3 MPG over the 3.53 to 1 standard. The towing package options usualy had 4.11 to 1 which gave it good pulling but bad highway MPG's. Back then no one cared about MPG's.

My 2006 19.5 foot Chevy C with a monster 8.1 L engine gets 12.5 MPG at 70 MPH on the highway. A smaller engine could easily get 13 MPG or more.

Yes. But yours is a 2006. This is a 1990.
