I am looking to have to leave the rig in the south someplace and fly or drive the toad back to the north for a week or two around Thanksgiving and maybe a month or two for a trip to the southern hemisphere in the winter. Just wondering where folks store there rigs in such situations? I have left the rig at airport parking lots before, and for a couple months I guess I could go to a self storage spot, but I am wondering if there are other solutions I might be missing, aside from the obvious driveways of friends and families.

Thanks.

I would not even consider leaving my rig in a parking lot type situation. If you do then anticipate that it may be stripped when you return.

Find a secure storage lot that has a opening for the amount of time you need.

For years, we left ours in private yards, call your police stations, fire stations and public office (low positions) in the small towns of america. Many will store your rv on their property (at home , they need the extra bucks), watch after it etc, for a few dollars a month ( you can make arrangments with them to keep em hooked up too).

If you dont like that, try the public storage facilities around the lakes in the country. They do a great job of watching em. Many rv parks of the mom and pop variety in the south, have rv storage on site.

We have left our rig at a RV park when we go for a period of time. That way there are utilities and a secure facility. We pay the park fees and leave emergency numbers and keys with the management.

Couple places come to mind..

Call a few RV Parks and RV Dealerships to see if they have short-time storage..

Look in the yellow book for storage places, to see if one is in your area...

We used a RV Park a couple of times, one up here in the Northwest and one in Nevada.. We put our RV in storage for a week each time..

Just make sure you have enough propane for the refrig, and batteries are fully charged if you want to keep it running while away, or have elec hookup..

Texas has many campgrounds that will store it, then there are regular storage areas, that also have indoor storage for household goods etc. One a friend stores his in is just outside the Texoma Thousand Trails Preserve. Stored in the yard in I believe Gordonville TX with high chain link fencing. Rate was quite reasonable. You did not mention where you are, so it may be too far for you. It is North of Dallas in Gordonville, Route 377 (last time there there there was no street sign.

Heading N,on Route 377, you go past FM 901 road 2.3 miles (on rt side its about the 5th Right.) If I remember correctly there is a sign advertising the storage on the side of a buildings at or near the intersection...

We have stored ours for months in Brownsville, Texas while traveling to Mexico and Belize. $25/month in an RV park that uses a field so people can store vehicles large and small. I guess you just have to look around and decide what is right for you, the first option was $200/month for secure storage - however, we decided we were comfortable with the field for $25/month.

Some campgrounds offer rig storage. I was considering leaving the PUP at the Outdoor World Lake Gaston for a week or two, vs. driving it home and back down, but although the storage rate was great, I've got things I need to do with the PUP before my next trip.

A lot of RV parks offer RV storage for a small fee. Chesapeake Campground (Virginia) charges $30 per month for storage inside the campground, which is at least gate controlled. I stored mine there for several months...

Thanks all. This has given me a bunch of options. Much depends on where I will be when I leave, but these are options to the airport parking lots.
