I am planning to visit some friends and stay in their driveway. It is very hard for me to get level on it, so I thought I would keep my refrigerator turned off (small single door Dometic in a RT 170) and not have to worry about it.

But I don't know how to travel and to park with door cracked open (to keep it aired out) and not have the door swinging open and banging shut. Should I just duct tape a cloth into the opening and then duct tape the door semi-closed? I wish there were good bungee cord positions but there aren't.

Just least leave it shut until you get there.

A towel fold and in the jamb and duct tape will work just like you planed. Don't leave the duct tape on any longer then you have to. It might leave the adhesive on the jamb. After a few days once it's dried out real good you can close it all the way. It's when theres moisture in there you will get oder like moms cooking. Bill

Dometic has changed its latches over the years. My old one had a latch that held it cracked open. New one doesn't. What a pain!

Let it dry, and air out before the trip. Once it is dry. It won't mold. No need to keep it open.

Ditto on that. Once ours is dry (takes a couple of days) the door gets closed till the next trip. Could be days, months until it's opened. Never had any mold or mildew....

My 2005 Dometic has a latch with a detent to keep the refrigerator door open a bit. It also has holes that you can put a u-shaped pin in to keep the door open..... I made a pin to use in the holes and used it that way for several months before I discovered that the latch does the job if you work it right.

Exactly! When you get to your destination, then hang a towel over the top of the door.

I fashioned a device for holding mine open with some (thick) coat hanger wire and side cutters; perhaps you can too...

I would put an open box of baking soda and a roll of paper towels inside and keep the door closed while traveling. When we are not using our van we always keep the door open. I like air to circulate and would rather be safe than sorry.
