Found this interesting in today's local news. I've seen several threads about people going south of the border to buy fuel. Carefull though... read the link:

Let's see, Mexicans come across our border to buy goods cheaper in the US and return to Mexico. No problem. We cross their border to buy cheaper fuel and they impound our vehicles.

Maybe we should impound Mexicans buying cheaper goods in the US. Nah, we can't do that, they might get mad at us. Unbelievable!

Does the Mexican gov't have any idea how many Canadians and Americans cross their border in RV's and maybe now won't do so? What would that do to their economy? Should the US impound Canadian vehicles since they want to buy cheaper fuel in the US? I don't think so, it's called trade between two countries.

Sounds like a knee jerk reaction from some Mexican officials.

This is about pickups with auxiliary tanks. Has anyone heard if they are checking motor homes with 90 gallon or larger tanks? Of course Mexico is kind of out of the way for me.

I was going to post on this issue but, all the bleeding heart libs would have a fit if the truth was posted...What the hell... FORGET MEXICO they take our money and every thing else they can take, force away or sue away from the USA and never give anything in return. Now they take our cars at the border by force and fear over some fuel/gas. WHAT! DID THEY HAVE A TANKER TRUCK? We would go to jail for that. Because you know the vehicles were not just given up and the people were in fear, not to give them up, because of how Americans are treated in mexican jails and just the simple fear of going to jail. This is pure trash. I do not, never have and never will support that country by my own FREE will.

Looks like your okay if your tank is original factory installed and not an add-on.

It's interesting that once we became a burden to the Mexicans, they did something to put a stop to it. Interesting concept, isn't it? Maybe the U.S. could learn from this and do something similar to put a stop to the constant drain on our medical and social systems by the unrelenting hoard of Mexicans coming over here for financial gain.

Last paragraph of article sounds as though some Mexican "official" has their eyes on a nice 2006 GMC!

I'm with Cornfed on this one.
We've enjoyed Mexico for over thirty years - but no more.
A person has to draw the line somewhere and ours was about ten years ago.

Sounds to me like the Mexican Government is subsidizing the price of fuel either with low taxes or direct subsidization and wants to see that benefit go to it's citizens, not to "tourists" who pop over for an hour or so to fill up not only the stock tank but also large auxiliary tanks with fuel and leave, with no benefit of any sort to Mexico and it's citizens. I have no problem with that. They could offer the choice of a fine to equalize the taxes, rather than seize the truck, mind you - that would be a bit more polite.

This is directed solely at the tax evaders that are crossing into the border towns and buying fuel for resale in the US. It is illegal in the US and the ICE folks have been cracking down themselves, now Mexico is helping them and people scream bloody murder. It looks to me like many of you support criminals, as long as they are the right color and this is racism in the worst form. People need to read the articles, not just condemn a country for assisting our Officers catch American thieves, who are stealing from you and I.
