My DH, DD (17 years old), DS (12 years old and in a MAJOR growth spurt!)and I are going to Myrtle Beach later in the month. We are staying at Ocean Lakes based on the advice of friends and this forum. I am interested in in information about restaurants in the area that won't cost us a fortune. We will most likely go out to eat several times over the course of the week we will be there and I can't afford to spend $100.00 per meal for the four of us. In addition, the restaurant would have to offer a variety of selections because although the kids and I love seafood, the DH is allergic. I would also like to avoid the chain restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood (been there, done that). Any suggestions?

There are so many, I can't really make a single suggestion...
There are quite a few of the pay one price...eat 'till your burst places along Route 17 Business. Seafood is abundant, and it's good at just about everyplace. Most seafood places will offer steak or chicken too, so DH should be happy. Prices are fair...and may be considered reasonable compared to NY State. I live in Wilmington, about an hour north, and the prices seem a bit high to me....as M.B. is a tourist spot, to say the least!!

All in all, you'll find a wide choice of places to eat....and I'm betting you have a great time too! We're planning a trip down there in a couple of months...when all you tourists leave!! Ha ha!!

My wife likes hanging out at Broadway at the Beach. Last year we ate at Amici's Brick Oven Bistro. It was very good and reasonably priced.

We "tried" to eat at Margaritaville but it was a 2 1/2 hour wait for a table. I've heard from multiple people that it's good.

Was also ate at Carrabbas Italian Grill which was pretty good and also reasonable.

We also found a good pizza joint. It's called Michaels New York style pizza. The pizza was good and reasonable but the side salads were expensive.

I can't wait til we go back next year.

If you are open minded and don’t get offended easily Dicks Last Resort is a choice. My family and I had some great laughs here but again we all have a twisted sense of humor. The food is you typical TGI Fridays menu. But please if you go leave your attitude home because you will be messed with. Dicks is in Barefoot Landing.

We have been to Myrtle Beach a number of times, and as a matter of fact are going in a few days. For great sea food I would suggest going south to Murrells inlet - a number of very good places - Nances for example. Seafood in general is never cheap ... Another place we love (been 2 years so hopefully it is still there is Pig and Chicken - a bit south on Rt 17 on the RHS as you go south. Fantastic BBQ and fried chicken.

Have fun,

Steve

A lot of restaurants have early bird specials which will save you money. One of our favorites is Gulfstream cafe in Garden city beach. River city cafe has good burgers as well, the location in Surfside beach is on the ocean.

Enjoy!

This is helpful to me as well since we will be there starting on the 17th. I'm not a big seafood eater myself so the list of restaurants w/a varied menu is very helpful.
