I'm driving a 30,000 lb vehicle just hoping that after you pass you won't pull in front of me and slow down, or if you are on the entrance ramp, that you know how to MERGE, and now you want me to see if you are waving? I can't see in your windows except for that back one until after you have passed me. If you are coming at me on a 2 lane road, I'm trying to make sure that I'm centered in my lane and giving you room as you look and follow that look by wandering over into my lane. If it is a 4-lane road, I truly can't see in your windows. I would prefer that you put the phone down and concentrate on your driving, as I am doing.

Okay Barb, calm down. You don't have to wave at anyone if you don't want. Please do keep you eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. Some of us are just trying to have a fun conversation on the internet and maybe pass on a freindly hand signal while on the road.

I don't do the driving, I do the sightseeing/navigating. As long as I am not missing any road signs, I can look whereever I want, whenever I want. Observing other RVers is a fun way to pass the time on the highway. I have even taught my grandchildren to call out TT's, MOHOs, Pups, etc, just for the fun of it.

As far as talking on the phone, that is a whole new subject, and something I do not approve of. Why would you assume that just because we like to wave at fellow RVers, we are talking on the phone?

At at risk of sounding nasty, if you are having such a hard time driving your 30,000 lb rig, maybe you should get something a little smaller and therefore easier to handle. Traveling might be more enjoyable and less of a chore.

Take some time to enjoy the journey. Your next friend may be a wave away.

Grew up in Central Texas and the simple raising of the index finger or index finger on both hands was a universal greeting. I still see it to a small degree on the country roads when I go back for a visit.

Correct me, but the original poster said they didn't have an RV. My comments covered the whole range of small vehicle drivers out there that seem to be upset because an RVer didn't wave back. I was trying to suggest that the RV driver (if in a large MH) can't see the people in the car as they past, most are hoping that the person isn't going to pull in front and slow down, or if the person is coming up the on ramp that they know how to MERGE. They really aren't thinking about waving to the people in the car - maybe kids looking out the back window if stuck in traffic, but otherwise, how do you think the driver is going to see you in that small car some 5 ft below them unless you've got arms waving out of the window and if that is the case, most would assume that something is very wrong and will be trying to get over to the side of the road as quickly as possible.

Good Grief, Ladies and Gentlemen ... what a lot of hub bub for a simple idea of greeting one another. The Almighty gave us hands that waggle. If you waggle any or all parts of one or both, the guy you are passing will get the idea .. or not. I wave to people if I can spare the attention or if I can see their face or if I feel like it. Sometimes they waggle back and sometimes they are too busy driving. It's all good!! I'm still having fun and not keeping score.

I looked at this thread when it was first created and am swinging back around to check the status. Call it morbid curiosity.

I can't imagine that a universal greeting would succeed, because it requires that everyone in that universal group agree.

One thing forums teach you is that there is no universal agreement. Tain't no right, tain't no wrong. There's my way and your way, and if your way doesn't match mine, then you're lost without a clue.

I don't wave at most RVers going by, but I am always jealous and curious as to where they're going. Happy trails.
