What's involved in flat tow? I have always dollyed toads and have no idea what's involved. Any help will be appreciated. I have done the searched and nothing found.

Sorry....You can't flat tow a 2 wheel drive Jeep Cherokee. Nor can you tow it with the front wheels on a dolly. You can only tow a 4x4.

Remco driveline disconnect or trans lube pump are your options.

I see a lot of rigs going down the highways with the rear axle on a dolly. They say you shouldn't do that, but a lot of people do. I am merely presenting it as an option, it is up to you whether to try it or not.

A car hauler trailer is an option, if your tow rig can handle the weight.

It costs nothing to crawl under the Cherokee and disconnect the driveshaft, wrap the u-joint with tape to secure the bearing caps, and tie the shaft securely out of the way. The expensive part is the towbar, base plates, wiring, and auxiliary brake unit. You can figure on $1500-$3000, depending on what you buy, and what you can do yourself.

We flat tow a 2000 Grand Cherokee 2wd automatic using a Remco drive shaft disconnect. It has worked great for 4,000 miles. We use Blue Ox towbar and baseplate and U S Gear's unified tow brake with breakaway switch.

Just out of curiousity, what did all that cost?

It is being reported on the forum that Remco is going or has gone out of business. Their web site has lots of dead links too.

The Blue OX Aventa LX, base plates, U S Gear Unified Tow Brake, Remco drive shaft disconnect, lights, umbilical, locks, etc. installed by a dealer on our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran about $4,500.
