Capt Skup wrote: Curious why, as a rv'er towing a fiver, you would go from a heavy duty diesel pickup to a gasoline fueled half ton. Purchase price?
Good question.
A few reasons:
1) Last year I had trade in equity that significantly lowered the purchase price and payments.
2) Last year diesel and gas cost the same per gallon.
3) The new 6.7L cummins gets poor mileage compared to the 5.9L
4) The 1500 costs approx. $165 less per month in payments.
5) I commute 2,000 miles per month. Mileage and fuel cost difference is approx. $150 less per month.
6) Our current 5th wheel is in the process of a buy-back. So we will be able to down size the rv to fit the new truck.
This has been a tough decision, but the 1500 better fits our needs at this time.

I beat the hell out my local dealers. Here is the best deals I could find:
2008 Dodge 3500 SLT Quad Cab Lonestar DRW 4x4 6.7L auto
MSRP= $46,525
Best Deal= $35,682
-$10,843 or 23% off.
2008 Dodge 1500 SLT Quad Cab Lonestar 4x4 Hemi auto
MSRP= $37,965
Best Deal= $25,840
-$12,125 or 32% off.
I am going to purchase the Hemi 1500 QC.
Looks like diesels are still not be discounted as much as gassers?
Shows that diesels, even with the higher price of fuel are still carrying a greater residual or equity in them or lower depreciation rate.
I'm still a little confused about the poster that said the gasser Dodge had a lifetime warranty and the CTD didn't?

The Chrysler lifetime power train warranty does not apply to the diesels only the gassers.

Yeah, it is true. Otherwise my choice would have been harder...but the gasser was lighter (more payload) and less expensive. I am pretty sure the reason the diesel cost more is due to the fact it costs the manufacturer more to purchase than to build your own gas motor.

Saw an ad on TV for Reno (NV) Dodge that said 50% off MSRP on everything. I dind't check any further as I already have '06 5.9 CTD that's paid for and that I plan on keeping for a long, long time.

Life time warranty on the gas only and average $10,000 0ff list so had to check for the warranty at least--- but definitly nothing for your trade--sales guy was embarassed to even tell me they wanted to give me only $13,000 for my 07 with only 7000 miles on it----works out to bout the same costs if you had bought it last year--if you are going in with cash it's a heck of a deal and may still be a good deal to just get the warranty but if trading it is not much of a deal money wise---now if you're trading a little 4 cyl you might get something for it

Thats going to mean my use '07 won't be worth much at all! I guess I'll be keeping it for a good, long while.
It could be worse: you could have a Ford or Chevy and be stuck with them for a good, long while...
We had a dodge once but at 14K miles we traded for a chev. haven't been too sorry about the deal.

I went to my dealer today to pick up a oil filter and noticed the trucks on their lot said 24% off. Whatever that means. The 40% offer I saw on TV must be subjective and with a lot of exclusions and disclaimers.
