Something smells 'fishy' here. (Couldn't resist)
We launch our boat all the time from our rig (40') and it hardly gets the tail end wet. Knowing where to stop in the water to let the boat float off the trailer is important. One doesn't have to submerge the entire trailer to launch. Also...2 way radios are a great way to communicate. We are fast yet cautious, cool and calm. It's the other people that yell, scream and even hop out of their boats while launching that scare the heck out of me. Once a guy hopped out of his boat, the wife took off mad and left the boat sitting on the launch ramp. Ouch!
I'm guessing she panicked. How sad.

Why would anyone compromise their 40' MH in the first place. We towed our boat from Calif. to Oregon for a month of fishing. When making reservations I made sure that they were able to launch the boat for us, we docked the boat the entire time and they took it out prior to leaving.
Could I have launched it with the MH ? Yea, but why take a chance. Learning to manouver a MH takes time and then it becomes a craft, but in learning this craft, you have to know both the limitations of the MH and yours as a driver.

It's SALT WATER..there is nothing that will salvage anything in that coach. We fished an old Ford Bronco outta davy jones locker back in the day. It never stopped rusting and all the elec connections were toast. There is no way to save that coach...ugh...D

Seriously - I think this happens more when two people launch the boat. The driver (dare I say wife) sits patiently in the cab. Boat gets unhooked, hubby yells OK! And wife hits it. At least that's the way I recall seeing it.
When only one person launches, you have to put it in park, then back into drive.
I think the goosed it in reverse, slippery algae, tail floated, you're already screwed theory is the very accurate.
BTW - I say pull the injectors, change the fluids, fire it up ASAP and the engine is fine. Didn't you guys see the "Kill the Toyota truck episodes of Top Gear?"
Kill the Toyota Part 1
It's a ten minute video, but you will be surprised. Look for the rest of the parts - it's beyond belief.

I don't know why so many people worry about launching with their coach. I launched and recovered the boat shown in my signature four times in the last two weeks without an issue. One of the ramps was covered in slime, another with loose gravel. With 10,000 pounds on the rear axle the tires never slip. Because of the large overhang the tires never need to get close to the waterline. I actually prefer to launch with the coach. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
