Just purchased a 1997 4wd Jeep wrangler and am set up to tow behind my motor home. Instructions in Jeep Handbook says to put transfer case in Neutral but to put the transmission (Manual 5 speed) in Gear. I would have thought both should be in neutral. Need some advice.
Thanks

Advice, do as the manual says, when I towed a Liberty with automatic, it was towed in park, same as my Avalanche, I dont know why, but it works, besides your wheels will be freewheeling and my guess is if the transmission is twirling around while under tow it might do some damage.

No, the transmission must be in gear to prevent them from turning.
I recollect that the book says second, but some pull in fourth.
That is in the event something happens you don't over speed the engine.

Follow the manual.
On mine (automatic) goes in park.

Transmission needs to be in gear and the xfer case in neutral. If you leave the tranny in neutral and it spins due to friction through the xfer case, some bearings won't get lubed, and could burn.

I use 5th figuring if it somehow gets into gear I'd rahter rev at 5th than 2nd. you picked one of the easist TOADS to tow for sure.
