Just another reason for putting a front receiver on any boat lauching vehicle to keep the drive wheels as far from the water as possible.
Now that you mention how slippery the boat ramp is, that might be what happened, the RV slid backwards while attempting to pull out of the boat launch ramp. Next time they should use a 4 wheel drive!
Yes a front mounted hitch will also help out. And a 24" long hitch extension, so the tires stay on dry cememnt.

I have to disagree with a lot of you guys.I've launched my boat many times with my RV and with the long rear overhang the rear wheels never get any where near the water. JMO

I have a front and rear hitch on my Bronco and I have several times used both the front and rear hitches to launch two boats from opposite ends and having both trailers hitched at the same time (turning around to do so) but I am just bragging.
In my experience, when the rear wheels start spinning the brakes will prevent the vehicle from descending into Davy Jones' Locker and once the vehicle has stopped you apply the throttle judiciously and gently preventing wheelspin. But the common reaction to spinning the tires is to give 'er some more gas and stay off the brakes. The rear overhang is definitely a plus in the Class A as someone else pointed out the rear wheels shouldn't touch the water line.
Anyhow, the poor people ended up with a ruined RV and ruined day. Let's not mock them for their unfortunate experience.

Why would anyone compromise their 40' MH in the first place ? We towed our boat behind our MH from Calif. to Oregon for a month of fishing. When making reservations I made sure that they were able to launch the boat for us (alot of Lake CG's/Resorts do this), we docked the boat the entire time and they took it out prior to leaving.
Could I have launched the boat w/ the MH ? Yea, but why take the chance to back a MH so heavy onto a surface that was not designed to support the weight nor do boat ramps get very much maintenance as far as cleaning of debrie etc..
Learning to manuver a MH in a safe manner takes time and then it becomes a craft, you have to know both the limitations of the MH along with your limitations as a driver.
I've seen many folks that will set up chairs around boat ramps just to watch folks struggle to launch & retrive boats, much like campers watching folks manuver their rigs into sites. Boat ramps are also often crowed w/ folks launching or retrriveing boats which makes folks rush, another factor that causes folks to error which leads to panic in stressful situations. Material things can be replaced, pride & ego will take time, no life was loss which was the main thing.

It was the part about the MH being worth $200,000
I don't think any MH is worth that in today's market

It'll be interesting to see if the brakes work after the retrieval from the water. They probably will.
