Our 13 yr old cat JJ has not been acting right the last two days, took him to the vet yesterday, physical exam revealed nothing remarkable, I can't put an exact finger on just what it is but I know my cat and he's not right.
They drew blood and just called and said his liver enzymes are elevated, don't know the numbers but he's going back for x-rays at noon today.
Any info would be very appreciated before I go, what might I be looking at.
I don't think I could stand to lose JJ, he'd be my third loss since 9/22 when we lost Sofie and then Jan. we lost our other black cat Teddy, we just love JJ so much, he's so sweet and loving and he's always been just a very dear cat.
Thanks for any input you might have.

Oh Sher - I am so sorry that you have this worry. Our animals put us through so much. Liver problems can be managed if it is not cancer. there are medications that can be given at least to dogs and prob cats that will support the liver. I will pray for JJ and will worry along with you.

Thanks Barb...I'm praying this is not cancer and maybe it's something manageable, I fed him some chicken and rice baby food this morning and he has kept it down, hopefully that maybe a good sign...I know I'm grasping at whatever.

Sorry Sher. Cat livers are very susceptible to any insult. Even a few days of not eating can cause a "fatty liver" with elevated enzymes that progresses to full liver failure. Often times these guys recover with TLC and supportive care. Hope this is something that can be dealt with ...

Yes, we have JJ home, the x-rays did not show anything unusual with the liver...
but he's full of poop, yes poop and he apparently cannot pass it.
I got him soft food and the vet gave him Laxatone to be given three times a day and as much water as he will drink. I have made up a room for him downstairs with his own private litter box so I know for sure if he goes.
Has anyone ever dealt with this before, I sure haven't.
I know this is a lot better news than and possible liver disease but if he doesn't go than he'll have to undergo the Barium treatments, so actually I am still very concerned, especially "Why" isn't he going.

Thanks for the update. I really don't have any idea what is going on. However, we have a cat with megacolon which means he gets plugged and has to have an enema, but that is different from this problem. Could he have eaten something that plugged him? Hope all goes well and comes out good in the end!!! (please excuse that pun)

I've tried to think of something he might have gotten into but I can't think of anything. He won't eat just anything, he's strictly and indoor cat and always has been, the plants are hanging and there aren't many in the house right now anyway.
I just checked on him, he's eating and drinking but no activity in the litter box yet.
Cute pun Barb.
