That has to be some kinda powerful scooter! I recommend the tricycle type over standard for stability. (srw vs drw)

(if you didn't look to see what area of the forum we were at! )

I've got a 125CC scooter I use for this purpose. Works great for just running to the store or checking out the local area. I bought this hitch mount on Ebay and it works great. Motorcycle/Scooter Mount

Also, check with your state, in Illinois, any thing over 50CC requires you to get a Class L license and over 150CC requires a Class M license. I couldn't beleive I needed a motorcycle license for a scooter but in Illinois you do.

I have a 125CC exactly for this purpose, works great and a lot of fun. In Illinois you have to get a motorcycle license for anything of 50CC, a Class L for 150cc or less, and a Class M for over 150cc. Here is a link to the hitch mount I bought.

We take a Honda Helix and our toad so both of us have transport if necessary plus I love scooting.

Put the Helix on a rack (I made.) in between the toad and moho. Works great. About $130.00 and my time invested in the rack.

Two years ago I bought online a 250cc scooter to zip between two camps that are four miles apart at which I work a few weeks of the summer. Even after motorcycle lessons, I would panic going over 30 mph. So now I scoot across pasture/gardens staying on the home property. May sell it at our local university this fall. Lesson? Try it out first to see if you can tolerate getting around that way. I was never so glad to get in our old VW with four wheels and a roof for dashing between (and among sometimes) the camps.

Also these scooters have to be tagged and registered. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the electric scooters don't have to meet these requirements. Those sound like interesting options. I'll try one first, this time.

I've had some experience with scooters and motorcycles and I don't recommend them for the purpose we are discussing. Especially if you are an older person and even more so if you are an older person with no previous riding experience. You can define older for yourself. You need to ride often to keep your skills up. Fear is a good thing to a point I might add. Scooters have their applications and I am not completely condeming the idea just suggesting that for most of us they are not the best answer. Factor it all in and make your own decisions but I vote for a small toad car for anyone over forty and or inexperienced with motorcycles and scooters.

Yes
little electric scooters I have require no licence, no insurance, no plates or registration. Was just some other reasons why I whent with the electrics. They may not be as fast as the gas ones but they shure beat walking and I just plug them in and recharge them when they get low on juice.

I bought a motorcycle that would fit in a storage bay for trips where a toad is not desired . Weather and traffic dictate when and where I ride . I still stop for groceries enroute at Wal Mart or a local chain store with a large parking lot . The motorcycle is convenient and fun , but has some downside .

You say that the little electric scooters require no insurance. So are you saying that you have no liability insurance covering the operation of the scooters?

What happens if you cause an accident? You could be personally responsible for any injuries or property damage that you may cause. Also a liability insurance coverage also pays to defend you if the other party says that you caused the accident even if you did not.

With out insurance coverage you are self-insuring. But that could be an expensive risk.
