I have a 99 allegro with the front TV in the dash. I know I can get a converter box for digital conversion but I have already replaced the Tv in the back with a newer model flat screen to get away from that "big head bumping box" that most came with back then.

I realy can't remember the last time we used the front tv. I am thinking of just removing the old front tv to get away from any digital conversion issues and also don't know why I would want to put any money into making somthing work that I don't use. Also that big old tv must weigh close to 100lbs, getting rid of that much dead weight can't hurt.

I have seen many units with the tv in the dash and others with the tv in the over head. I was wondering if anyone has removed their front dash mounted tv and if you did what did you do with the big hole in the dash.
Was there a different center section that you could get from the models with the tv in the overhead to bolt in its place or did you have to make a new section to cover yours?
Thanks in advance for any help.

A nice cabinet with drawers sure would be nice.

In our rig there was a large TV in an overhead cabinet (above the dash) on the passenger side as well as a smaller set in the bedroom. We removed the large TV and turned that cabinet into a nice storage space where we keep our day packs, binoculars, road atlases and a file folder for accumulating maps and brochures about the area we're visiting. We made a door out of plywood, padded it with batting and covered it with Naugahyde that matched the color of the dashboard material. It stays closed with a simple hook and eye.

We got lucky with our 1993 and found the TV opening hinged covering in the closet. At first we did not know where it went but when we trashed the TV one of the kids figured it out.

If you have any small cabinet shops in the area the above ideals sound like good options if the task is more involved that you want to take on. The idea of a heavy TV that was just kind of sitting there never added to my comfort level either.

You can easily build a box inside out that will slide into the hole that is left behind! Either install a Door , Shelves or even a Drawer or two! In Our Case I use the space to keep extra Keys and even a Small Fire Safe. The Flat Panel TV Set sits on a Shelf that protrudes slightly above the Doghouse held in place by a pair of Bungees! Nothing Fancy but it does the job!
