We are looking at a 2005 Georgie Boy Landau 35' workhorse with 3 slides. We will be using it 90 to 120 days a year for short and extended vacations. Any and all pros and cons about the vehicle will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We had a 02 Pursuit, enjoyed every minute of it, never had one problem with it, something I can't say with the thing I have now.

Hi,
If the 2005 Landau's rolled off the same assembly line as our 2005 Cruise Master, check it out VERY carefully. It looks great from a distance, but the attention to detail "behind the scenes" is lacking. Such as wiring (rats nests everywhere on GBM wiring, especially 12V) and the drawer slides (most of ours were held to the wall with only 1 screw when the brackets have holes for 3). GBM became part of Coachmen in the early 2000's, and I think their quality has slipped a bit each year since. Apparently some good ones still make it through, but check them over carefully. OH...and check very carefully for signs of leaks, especially around the slide and the windshield. Also grab the dashboard and give it a shake. Some rigs seem to have dashboards that aren't very rigidly attached.
As to your specific coach, if it passes your rigorous visual inspection, my only other concern is a 3 slide motorhome on a W-22 chassis. (It is a W-22, correct, and not a W-20? If it's a W-20, forget it, it's too heavy for the chassis.) If it's a W-22, you'll be pushing the weight limits in most cases. If you pack lightly and don't require a full water tank when you travel, you'll probably be OK. If you're planning on full-timing or taking long extended trips in it, then I don't think you'll be able to stay under the GVWR.
Do you plan on towing a vehicle? Since you'll be flirting with the 22,000 lb. GVWR, that means you'll be limited to towing 4,000 lbs. or less if you want to stay under the 26,000 lb. GCWR. (Just because it has a 5,000 lb. hitch doesn't mean that's how much you can tow.)
Your best bet, if you're really interested in this rig, is to take it for a test drive full of fuels and water and drive it over some scales on the way. That way you'll know exactly what your weight limitations will be and should give you a better indication if it will meet your needs.
For reference, our 2005 36' GBM Cruise Master weighs in just about at 19,000 lbs. empty. We tend to carry about 2,000-2,500 lbs. of people, food, water & stuff so we stay under the GVWR. However, our toad weighs 4,500 lbs., so we sometimes flirt with the 26,000 lb. GCWR. Just be sure this chassis will safely carry and tow what you need & want.
Good Luck,
~Rick

I like this reply.
We have a GBM, Encounter & compaired to the regular lower priced units, I would have to say its money well spent.
Although you will have some problems, its no different from any other M/Hs even the high priced units.
Cant say much about the new models because we have an 88 & other than the Ford 460 engine have nothing to complain about with the rest of the M/H.
Our first GBM was a 1978 30' Swinger with P30 Chevy chassis 454/turbo 400. Had a few problems, but was old & expected.
In short, what I'm saying, once you go GBM, you might not want to go anywhere else.

Bought this same unit new in 8-05. Put 12k miles on it and had lots of problems. Engine and transmission so noisey could not talk to anyone in co-pilot seat. Dash loose-bolted a bracket under it.
Wind shield leaked-Finally got fixed. Couch-dinette slide problems,
dealer did temp fix, would have to go back to factory to be taken out and hopefully fixed. Had leak under kitchen sink that got under vinyl
and had lots of mold. Most of front floor would have needed to be replaced. Factory installed sewer flusher check valve
back wards and that caused leak. Two trips to dealer before a teck finally figured that out.Replaced most drawer slides as cheap ones used and most broke. Couch moved around alot but a safe-t-plus took care of most of that. Average about 6 mpg. It was on the w20 chassis with 19.5 tires. Having said all that, I know theres good and bad in every brand. Check it out good and take it for a long test drive.
Good Luck

We have a 2005 Pursuit IILE--35year anniversery edition. Would like to say
we have been very happy with ours but would also reinforce a tight inspection
of such things as the drawer channels. Have had to repair 5 because they only
put 1 screw in each track holder--this poor workmanship at the utmost. Also
the upper cabinet hinges--some type of spring hinge--are very poorly constructed
and we have had six of the go bad. Otherwise, we have been very happy with our
unit and as reported it is not a "prevost" it suits our budget and our needs.
Have been full-timing for almost three years.
