discounted $100k what's the catch? Sorry I don't know a lot about Class A MHs. So shat is typical? Are these decent coaches? DW and I have talked about a Class A, but never given it much thought until now.

thanks,

Jason

The pricing at retail has dropped to move mostly older units. They are typically discounted 40% off of MSRP. The typical cost to the dealer is 20% over manufactures price. The difference on older units v newer units is that the dealers can't sell older new units for the same price as a current model year unit. The depreciation is so great in the first year that if a year old new is sold it has to be sold close to the depreciated price of a used same year unit. Many dealers are not restocking with new units until they sell the new year or sometimes two year old new units. Soon dealers may only sell new units they are told manufactures have coming off the production line. That is the just in time marketing that saves them the cost of paying for inventory. When that is done they can price the unit at rock bottom prices as the fast purchase resale is less expensive for them. The many left over new units are being sold in some cases at a loss just to generate a cash flow for dealers who are at the point where they may have to close the doors if the banks they borrow money from demand payment, which could put them in bankruptcy. It in deed is a good time to buy, but check your dealers prices with the many other dealers that have the same model, as that is the only way you will know if you are getting a ggod price.

Those are leftovers from prior years and have gotten discounted, dealer rebates, and bonuses from some of the factories. Alfa has gone bankrupt and is now out of business so there is no factory support there. Those prices are not that out of line from what you could expect. Some of them are entry level coaches with inflated prices. If you would consider the first one listed you are getting a new motorhome with tires that are 4-5 years old to start. That is time to replace tires in many cases. If you have been following the different posts on this forum you have seen that tires on RVs don't wear out, they age away in 5-7 years. This is definitely a great tume to buy since there are many great buys there and you can enjoy your RV now. Having had RVs of various types since 1969 We are sold on the lifestyle. Go looking in your area and check here before putting money down. The worst deal can be a low price at a dealer who won't recognize you after the sale. A reasonable price at a good dealer is always a good buy. You do want the dealer to make enough to stay in business for your warranty service if needed.

Hi Jason,

Percentages or total dollars off on motorhomes are not good comparision tools and there is no industry "standard" for you to determine what is or is not a good deal when it comes to retail prices.

When I shopped, I found the retail prices of the exact same units to vary by a few thousand dollars. I found that some dealers set that retail price way up there or pad it with dealer options to make you think that final number is a great deal. FWIW, the actual selling prices I've seen on new units like mine are about the same as I paid in '05. I don't believe like some that the actual selling prices have gone down much if any at all.

If you compare the actual selling price to identical units elsewhere, you will get a better idea of the market value. A few I saw on that page weren't really that competitive even though the discount looked too good to be true.

Good luck and welcome to the Class A forum should you decide to take the plunge.

those are all prices for used units, could have been way overpriced or phony priced to begin with. or if original MSRP with 30% off for first sale then more off for used.

Kind of like tires, they age out instead of wear out?

Not so interesting, some of the gas units, ie; Allegro Bay are discounted some 7,000. of so dollars, not impressive at all.
