When our oldest went away to college, we decided to come to him for Thanksgiving. We rented a cabin in a VA state park near his school and he met us there. That was six years ago. He has since graduated and we are still going there for Thanksgiving. For the last four years we have been joined by friends and we rent four cabins for all the families. We all get together in one of the cabins for dinner on Thursday. The rest of the time is spent hiking, biking, and sharing good times. It is one of our favorite trips of the year and we have lots of good stories from our time together. Of course, our extended families don't get it, but have stopped complaining since we still spend some time at Christmas with them.

When our son turned 3 we decided to create our own family tradition and started renting cabins or heading to the beach in Mexico. He is now 15 and his sister is 7 and we have camped in our trailer every Thanksgiving since we bought it a few years ago. Last year was the exception since my folks came into town...... so we stayed home. It was fun but we all agreed to head back out on the road for Thanksgiving this year.
My parents have never minded and love the fact that we are creating memories and traditions with our children....of course they always add "We better see you at Christmas or else!!!"
We are already booked for this Thanksgiving and cant wait! Have fun!

Since none of us really like turkey all that much, Sometimes I do lasagna, salad, garlic bread and dessert. One year we did prime rib and baked potatoes and seven-layter salad and a couple of those brown and serve breads and of course, dessert. The point of thanksgiving is being together. And one year we did the turkey, but everybody else had to bring a dish. I like to watch football too.

I get the whole week off at Thanksgiving this year and this is exactly what I would like to do!!! Hope the kids can meet us somewhere...We need to figure out how to get TV reception so we can watch some FB too! Our preowned RV came with a satellite dish, which the dealer said would work as an antenna, too, but haven't figured it out yet. Any suggestions on this??? We don't watch TV a lot while at the CG but do like to catch the news, weather, and sometimes a FB game, but don't watch enough to pay for satellite.

We made the change last year and it took a little time for me to get my wife to agree to it but once she did we had a great time. We did the big family dinner the weekend before because that is the time when everyone can get together and then we left. We had a great time and plan to make that the new family tradition. We did New years last year but the calander this year did not work in our favor so we will have to stay home and work. What a bummer.

Have to agree with you on the groceries. It just seems that between Thanksgiving and Christmas we overdose on turkey and ham. Prime Rib is what I am talking about.

It's a community-wide tradition in Louisiana. My late wife and I discovered and enjoyed a marvelous Thanksgiving weekend a few years back watching the folks having so much fun at Chicot State Park, near Ville Platte, LA. The place was filled with music and dancing and pots cooking and people enjoying themselves the way no one did who stayed at home, I'll betcha.
