Is the vehicle 5 years old, or are the tires 5 years old.

Go from the last 4 digits of the number molded into ONE sidewall of each tire beginning with DOT.....

The last for digits indicate the WEEK and YEAR the tires were built.

And if there is any doubt about their condition, REPLACE THEM. A blowout in a motorhome is not something to take lightly.

5 Years 42,000 miles about time to get some new rubber. Checking is a real good reason to get rid of them now. We've been having great use of Cooper tires. They don't have the checking problems of a lot of the tires and wear is in the good to very good range. Ride and handling has been excelllent with them.

Follow Wolfe 10's advise than change the tires if necessary. If was me and the tires are five or more years old, they would be off my coach tomorrow. Expensive though they may be, it is still cheap insurance. Jim.

You have not provided enough information. I will speak for Michelin,

My tires were dated 4002

22.5 xza H rated

side wall cracks

Warranty is 5 years

Warranty started 08/06/2003 the date I purchased the coach not DOT

Warranty is not mileage determined it is depth of tread

On 08/04/08 just before my 5 years was up Michelin paid 55% my new tire cost under warranty. For new XZA3s H rated

Dennis I know the feeling having just hit 6 years with 20K miles. We pulled each one off and washed it with soap and water on all three surfaces and both sides of the wheel.

Three was no aging signs to be seen. The same went for the 8 year old spare. The PO did keep them covered the first 5 years however.

We did find on the two front tires wear patterns that indicated worn front end parts. The steering stablizer (shock) was shot and we swapped them out with the same side inside rear tires.

Since they ride and handle well and any factory defect should have shown by not and often blow outs are with new tires we plan to go to the next inspection point yet keeping an eye on them along the way since they are not Michelin. They are the R8 19.5 size on a P30.

Best wishes on deciding what to do. If you plan to trade in the next 5 years you could go for new now. Yes tire prices can be expected drop if we see a "real" decline in crude prices. There is no point on driving with less tread on older tires then sell it with two year old tires on it down the road. Enjoy the new rubber yourself if that is the case as planned today.

The damage I'e seen caused by a tire, replacement tires would be a lot CHEAPER ! No down time and no insurance company involed.
My deductiable is $1000., so I can buy 2 tires and still have money for lunch.

Were they mine, I'd replace them all. Last time I encountered this was on a class C where that had been sitting in the FL sun for a while.

Lots of tread, but there was checking and cracking on the side walls. A section of tread separated and flew off while I was on I4 outside of Tampa. The tire did not blow though and I was able to limp into to town and replace all 6 tires before heading home.

safe travels,

I used to think old tires were fine as long as there was no sign of any damage. Then one of my perfect-looking 6-year old tires blew without warning. I was lucky to come away from it with a missing mudflap, ripped out wiring, and some inner fenderwell damage. I replaced all the tires that day and I'm now a believer in replacing them when they get to be 5 years old.
