Canada Customs and Boarder service has seized more hand guns and imprisoned more American Tourists this summer than in any former years. All are GOOD Hard Working Citzens of the USA that are being caught and punished by laws that where designed to catch the bad guys that where smuggling guns into Canada. An article in our paper this morning outlines just how tough our gun laws are and THE TRACKING VIOLENT CRIME ACT is.A 66 year old Mississippi doctor was reased from jail after posting a 20,000.00 bond, having spent 12 days in jail after a loaded .38 calibre revolver was found in his vehicle at the Blue Water Bridge.
He is one of five Americans arrested under newly-revised legislation that imposes a mandatory three-year jail term for illegal possession. Among others arrested and facing 36 months behind bars are a California prison guard,an Arizona senior and a young dad travelling with his child. It states that the law was designed to catch criminals who are making our streets less safe, especially in cities like Toronto, not catch LAW ABIDING US CITZENS , who are tourists and have no intention of robbing or shooting anyone.
We have a responsibility to let our friends know that they need to declare guns when crossing the border into Canada, even when you have a legal concealed permit to carry in the USA. That permit does not allow carring in Canada. Your gun will be secured and returned to you upon returning to the US.
Our laws, as in the US, state that IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE.
Have your state rep contact the border and have bigger warning signs put up
Law abiding citizens of both countries who are legaly licensed should not be lumped in with the scum who perpetrate wrong doing on Canadian citizens through gun violence. We all should have a right to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our personal property no matter where we are in North America. Canadian polititions don't seem to think so. Action and information are needed. Do your part.

Every post here says not to take guns into Canada.
I have little pity for those trying to sneak in guns.

This is of concern to me since I truly would appreciate being able to have a handgun while spending two months in Alaska. I guess I'll just have to ship my gun to Alaska and pick up when arriving there after traveling through Canada. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has rv'd to Alaska on how they handled taking a rifle or hand gun. Did you ship? If so, where to? One more reason I'll be spending less time and money in Canada. so go ahead and fill up your 'cry towel' Sea Dog---I'll save as much money as I can going through Canada and spend it in Alaska.

I could care less where you spend your money.
I spend nintey percent, no make that ninety eight percent of my travel dollars in America.
I also do not complain about the laws of a country of which I am a guest.

When in Rome do as the Romans do, When in Canada.... It's their country and their laws; and, if you think it's dangerous to travel there, don't enter their country.
Why do some people think that every country has to comply with or assimilate United States standards?

With respect, your post is CRAP!!!
I have crossed the border maybe 200 times. They always ask do you have a firearm.
If you answer no, and they find one who's fault is that? what exactally do you expect them to do when YOU LIED TO THEM? JMHO

I took a Remington 870 with an 18" Defender barrel through Canada this summer.I had the permit application all filled out, and when I got to the border, The customs agent checked it and signed it, and I was on my way. NO PROBLEM! Into Ak, back into Can. and back into the US. No one even wanted to see the shotgun.
I knew that handguns aren't allowed in Can. It's their country and their law.
Anyone who tries to slip a handgun in is asking for trouble.

When travelling to Alaska by vehicle, you will need to ship any handgun you are permitted and licensed to carry in your state. Canada has no regulations that allow you to carry your gun. Canada is a safe country to travel in, but as anywhere you go, there may be some risk in some areas. Every one has an opinion on this subject and I certianly respect that. If people think they have a right to carry and do not disclose, I feel the same as our writers that they should reap the consaquence. I am for being proactive and letting people know before getting into trouble. I guess I felt I had some sort of obligation to our friends, as not everyone is up to speed like some are. Canada has always had stiff gun laws and I am not against that. It makes me feel a lot safer.
